Manx Club Blackduck trip - trip options poll
For the full thread check here;
http://www.aussieveedubbers.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=16671
But essentially I want to poll what people want to do. Here is what I posted in the event post
| Quote: | Sorry for the lack
of info, I have been real busy lately, and I've been trying to sort out what to actually do.
Bad news first;
* They no longer have spit roast dinners or breakfast. Unfortunately the council wants them to set-up a stainless steel modern kitchen if they want to
serve food, something they can't afford to do.
* Fee for buggies is $25, to suit the price of 4WD's and motorbikes. $25 is for anything that uses the tracks. $15 is only for 2WD family cars that
go to the camp ground.
* it's going to be freezing
* camping over night will be $25 for sat, $25 for sun, and $5 camping, so all up $55.
* no driving at night
Good news;
* people trailering their buggies in on 4WD's will only pay $25 total per day, if they don't drive the tow car on the tracks.
So my plan of going to Black duck cos they serve food and we can travel light has gone out the window.
I am now tossing up between two options.
(1) Go there for a single day on saturday. Cheap at only $25. No need to take cooking or camping gear. Sunday to recover. have to leave at dusk on sat
evening.
(2) Go there for sat, stay the night and leave sun. More expensive at $55. By the time you take into account setting up and packing up, the extra $30
doesn't get you much more play time. Have to bring cooking gear, or drive 20-30 minutes to the tenthill hotel for dinner. Need to bring breakfast,
need to bring tent, need to bring warm sleeping gear cos it will be cold.
I am personnally leaning towards the one day trip for saturday only. What is everyone else's thought?

hmmm. We got 4 votes, and I am pretty sure we don't have 4 people currently online who would actually be attending black duck.
this voting plan may not work so well...
feel free to post comments. I know Mike wants to just go for Sat.

I reckon we meet at Gatton Macdonalds on saturday morning.
well if we were staying for 2 days, I would make the meet time around 10:00am cos we would have two days to play, and by then the temperature is more
pleasant for buggy travel.
If we were going for one day, I would make the meet time earlier. Something like 8:30? Any earlier and people would probably be driving in the dark to
get there.

Just my opinion but two days would be better for me as the extra money for the day is not much considering I reckon it will cost at least $100 in fuel
to get me van (will be nice and toasty sleeping in it) and trailer there and back. And no the buggy will not be regoed by then so i can not just drive
it. Of course all this is assuming I get my van back from its gearbox rebuild by then :puke

A day trip wouldn`t be bad, does not matter what time you get home saturday night. Gives you sunday to rest and clean (fix) anything.

Andy42 and DubCab have the right idea and ,ITS ABOUT TIME YOU GOT OUT OF BED EARLY
WES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .A 2 day event should start FRI night and a one day event at YES 6-00 AM or
can't you stand to many hours of bagging about where and where not you will drive your BIG SHINY CAR .
Don't let body work get in the way of real suspension travel

weekend -options
I havent finished my projects yet so i'll be there in the triton(again).I'm just going to chill out for the weekend and hopefully catch some
baja/buggy action. Sure its getting cold out here for you coasters but you've just gotta be prepared i.e. beannie and jacket. We generally eat real
well when we go camping coz you have plenty of time to cook (and have a cleansing ale while doing so).I dont think I've ever had baked beans in 20
years of camping! My wife is an awesome cook especially around a campfire or bbq and she said she'd help out for those who are "cullinary
challenged".(but it might cost you a ride in your buggy).Just bring out your meat and whatever else takes your fancy and I'm sure we can help out.
We also have plenty of eskies if you need to store cold stuff with donations of imported beer graciously accepted. Seriously if its all too hard just
let us know and we can probably arrange some descent food all weekend for just the cost only.:beer

Getting up and driving before the sun comes up doesn't bother me too much, I have a heated car. People on the north side of Brisbane will be
travelling for nearly 2 hours to get to Gatton, so they would leave at 6:30 to get there for 8:30. 6:30 is when the Sun starts to come up around my
area. I didn't think buggy people would want to start driving in winter before the sun came up.
Basically people are free to do whatever they want, arrive when they want and stay as long as they want.
I for one do not have the luxury of being able to finish work early friday arvo. The earliest I would possibly be able to arrive at Blackduck friday
night is 9:30pm, and I don't really want to be fumbling around in the dark setting up my tent then.
So I figure most people would be suited to sat only, or sat and sunday. the voting seems to be fairly close for those 2 options too.
Plan #1
Maybe we should change the meeting place to within blackduck itself. Then people can do whatever. The small hill climbs, the man-made rocky/tyre
gorge, and the mud pit are all relatively close to each other. We could play around there between 9 and 10am on saturday morning, and that could be
the meeting place / time.
One group would be already in blackduck, the early starters or the people there from friday night. The other group would be coming in that morning. I
am happy to co-ordinate the group coming in that morning. Meet at the Gatton maccas on the warrego highway at 8:30am, planning to leave at 9am.
Then we play all saturday. Some people can head off at night, some people can stay around and head off the next day. It seems we have enough people
keen on both ideas for both ideas to work.
We could still hang out as a group for a while on saturday night. We could either go as a big group to the tenthill hotel for dinner and drinks. Or we
could hang around dubcabs kitchen and do the same.
I know the day trippers are supposed to be out by dusk, but I am sure they wouldn't mind us hanging out at the camp for a little while to socialise.
The worst they can do is ask us to pay the $5 camping fee.
So what does that vague plan sound like?

from dubcabs wife
read your post about going to tenthill pub for dinner on Saturday night, and from all local accounts its not a great option, however the grantham pub
does nice meals at reasonable prices from 6pm its only another 7 kms into grantham from tenthill about 20mins from blackduck.... just thought this
might be helpful

Thanks for the advice, greatly appreciated!
I was just going off the info the guy at Blackduck told me over the phone. I asked where we could eat and he said the tenthill pub was good. But if
the grantham pub better than that's the way to go :thumb
So dubcab, can you give us a guided tour of Blackduck? I have only briefly been there once, and the guys I was with pretty much stayed in the mud pit
the whole day.

quack quack
I've done most of the tracks up there but the best one has to be the trip to the top of the mountain, the views are spectacular and would make an
awesome club photo. I've been up in a defender (2nd gear low range) which probably means valve bounce in first gear for wes's baja. I've also been
to the top on an XR400 and that got bloody scary near the top. Its fairly steep in parts and with tennis ball size stones on the track itwas hard to
stay upright on the bike and if you stall you start rolling backwards-NOT GOOD ON A BIKE. But I'd take my kombi up there if it was finished so you
guys shouldnt have any problems. There are also little joining tracks that are rated extreme so down hill only would be the go. I reckon your legs
will be shakin on the brake pedal on some of those. But I reckon anyone who makes it through the man made obstacle course unaided deserves a bloody
medal ! Oh ...and by the way there are usually motorbikes on the tracks so try and stop when you meet them headon when cruising the tracks. If it
means a ride in a decent VW I'll take anyone on a guided tour!!!!!

:o hey andy, just make up some plates out of cardboard for ur buggy and cut cross country to the park! if u go b4 sunup no one will notice the black
texta writing (or crayon)..... if anyone asks. just say ur trying out the letters 4 size! (mind u u will have 2 sleep in a tent wif no van!):thumb
....or could hitch it to back of cattle truck when the drivers not looking??..... take normal car and grab seat.. :cussing my sis has bailed on me so
I know I have one (yeh yeh boring baja!lol)..
hey wes wat is the final decision as to meeting places as i will go straight to park? (gatton would b big loop 4 me).. wat about making dubcabs
kitchen the spot then the overnighters can dump stuff? is the 'play area' easy to find?
hmmm can see myself ending up driving round lost 4 half the day..lol..
I think it would be a nice wind down at end of day if a bbq type thing is held at the 'kitchen' lol rather than heading off for the pub, perhaps
your original idea of campfire would be the way to go? or are all the overnighters bailing?

Hey Andy,
Three options for you,
1. Throw my brother(Ashley) some fuel money and he will most probably tow your trailer out there for you. He is staying at my place Friday night and
driving his Patrol out to the park with us.
2. Catch a lift out to the park with Ashley then jump in with $2.63 homebrand baja.
3. Sit at home with your tail between your legs whining that you couldn't come.

So here is my plan...
Arrive at Gatton macca's at 8:30, and leave at 9:00am. That should get me to Black duck at about 9:30am. Will then hang around the mud pit, man-made
rock canal, and small hill climbs till 10:00am and hopefully will find the others.
The mud pit, man-made rock canal, and small hill climbs are all relatively close to each other, and fairly close to where you come in and pay your
money. They will also give you a map to help you figure things out. You shouldn't get too lost.
People that are heading in earlier or seperately can organise with dubcab to meet up with him. I'll let you guys (and gals) figure that out. As long
as we all meet up as described by 10am.
We will then go for a tour led by dubcab, and he will take us to some nice places
At night people are free to head off whenever. We seemed to have eliminated the pub option, if people are going to cook dinner then that will happen
in the camping area. Dubcab has kindly donated his kitchen services. byo food, or suck up to dubcab to bring it and pay him a fee I guess, again
figure it out between yourselfs. I'll be hanging around for a while sat night, probably heading off by 8:00pm. If I am lazy I will grab maccas at
gatton on the way home.
People staying can camp, there seems to be a few people keen on that. People heading off can head off, there is just as many people doing that
Sorry for the crap organisation. No food by blackduck ruined my original plan, and I have been real busy and haven't had a chance to do any other
planning. In fact my baja still has sand on the floormat's from the wheelies beach trip.
And as stated our fearless leader Brad won't be coming either, he is real busy with Uni assignments.
By the looks of the voting we should get about 10 cars turning up, which would be a good turn-out. Hope to see you all there!

Mate if it is cool with ash i would gladly put in money for him to tow it but it is a big asss trailer as you know:P. Maybe you could ask him for
me:kiss.
I will know tommorrow after 12 if my van will be ready as they flew the parts up from Melbourne for it but were the wrong ones so they are flying the
right ones up tomorrow morning so they hope it wll be a goer but I am not convinced. Oh option 3 sounds pretty bad Daz:P i will give youa call
tommorrow to let you know what is happening.

Yeh of course I realy must thank Heather for her offer and the thought did cross my mind " Mmmmm getting driven around all day by a lovely lady while
I had a few refreshing beers :thumb " actually very very tempting but I realy want to see if I can kill this buggy or not. Will be interesting to
see how it goes seeing as the genny is not working so a couple of batteries will come with me as well
