What car is this ?

Spotted this along Darling Street, Balmain when I went for a walk down the street with a friend of mine.

A strange looking one...

I dont think it is british, the british were heavily into overchroming with the front grille. I think it may be european, and about 1925-1935 period. Austins had wire spoked wheels and this car has thick steel spokes.

I dont think its a topolino - too big. I think perhaps an early rover, like P2 / P3 sort of age.

Yes I think it does look like a FIAT Topolino

but it does look too big.. the Fiat was only small...
as most fiats were...

You guys need to have a look at the cars grille, its nothing i have ever seen before. I had a look at old car website that i know and most cars back then had rather oval looking grilles. I give you guys the website so u can have a look for yourselves. But the grille looks very mercedes to me, but the car aint a mercedes. Isnt a rover. The Fiat is much smaller than that thing but had wider guards under the tyres. I wonder if it is just some guy has built his own body to confuse us all.
Here is the website by the way. www.about-autos.com

For those interested had a look in my car reference library,
small as it is .
The car is not a Fiat Topilano. The Grill is wrong and the boot section is longer than the Fiat. The Fiat had a sloping back not like photo which seems to have provision for a Dickie seat.

Will keep searching, Hate these trivia games. I am more inclinded to think British like Austin or Early Anglia or Grills very similiar to the old prefect

Back again, Reference book The world guide to automobiles.

The car is a SIMCA Six, made from 1936 to 1949. Put in a nutshell a fellow by the name of Henri-Theodore PIGOZZI took over from Ernest Lost as the French Fiat importer and thus founded simca as he had the license to build the Fiat 6 CV under licence for the French Market. So steve 1302 you are close the The Fiat 6 CV was bigger version of the Topolino thus the boot and bonnet extended . Fiat Topolino was only 569CC and carry only 2 persons. Hope this useless trivia is use. From the picture the car would be pre WW2 1935 to 1938. The 1949 Simca 6 had a different grill that is like the post was chevs etc and the headlights in the front guards.

catch you soon,
bob
