sequential turbos


Ian raised the idea of using a diesel turbo for great low rev torque in the turbo 1600 post, so I got to thinking about using one of these and then a bigger petrol engine turbo for boost over the rest of the rev range.

Do you guys think this is do-able? The only sequential set-ups I've heard of use computers to tell the turbos when to swap roles, I was wondering if there is a mechanical equivelant that can be adapted to and application such as this?

Toyota soarers the early models used a seq. setup maybe have a look at them.

cam 20b mazda had sequential turbos and deisels have been running sequntial set ups for years 6v92tta/8v92tta/12v92tta these are detroit engines wich are two strokes they have valve but are two cycle this is were the 671 871 and 1271 blower came from so ile tell you what these numbers stand for
6v92tta
6 means 6 cylinder
v means v shaped motor
92 injector size
tt twin squential turbo
a means after cooled like inter cooled but the cooling
is after the turbo much better if you think about it wy cool the air to make it dence then heat it when it gose in to the turbo as well as twin turbo and after cool this is all siting on a blower but this is a truck engine not a vw but its food for thort

Just a thought... but you want to run sequentials to eliminate lag right, yet still have top end hp. As I understand it, sequentials were originally designed for large capacity engines, because a large turbo will be more laggy than two smaller ones.

On a small capacity engine, this isn't realy a factor, becuase when correctly matched, your still running a small turbo.

Unless, perhaps you want to run say a t25 as the secondary, and say use a primary from a suziki capachino (600cc turbo). Now that would give you the low end poke, and still give you the top end you want.

Still think that singles are simpler... Just another idea... but the volkswagen 1.8 diesels' run a VNT version of the GT25. Now if you want to eliminate lag, and have top end power THAT is the way to go. It'll be rare to find one on a wrecker in australia though... but worth it... Much simpler exhaust system, no wastegate, no lag... the benefits go on and on. Plus its a VW part, so your keepin' it real!

Those 92 seried GM's dont run sequential turbos dude, They are simply turbocharged over supercharged. Simple energy recovery.
Pretty much all the 2 stroke GM's 53's, 71's 92's and so on are blown but some of them are turbocharged as well. This is not really sequentially done.
The 53/71/92 figure is not injector size, that is cubic inches /cylinder.
