supercharging Q's?

im just doing a little research into supercharging my t3 1600 tp. ive noticed that a few aussiedubbers have gone down the supercharging route and ive got a few questions, how much trouble is it really i know i will have to make a manifold and get a larger carb, ive basically decided to use a toyota 16004agze supergharger as ive been told i wont have to modify it or cut any part of ym car to fit it. so basically all im asking is there any suprises i should look out for that im not taking into account?

Sorry i have to Laugh a bit who told you

" as ive been told i wont have to modify it or cut any part of ym car to fit it."

How do you intend to drive the blower ??? you will have to cut heaps of tinware away to get the drive belts to fit.

then you will have to modify the engine lid to get it to fit etc etc

running a drive belt on a type 1 is easy. On a type 3 you have the cooling shroud in the way. Look in your engine bay, you can't even see your crank pulley.

sorry guys didnt explain myself very well, i know ill have to modify the cooling shroud to run the belts and what i meant by not cutting my car is purely body modification, i would be pulling the whole motor out when fitting the supercharger and didnt want to cut the body in any way to be able to refit(or am i still going to have to cut body work?). im basically asking about the extra's fuel pumps, bigger lines, hassles of tunning etc.... and as for the engine lid real easy to fix dont run one!

I found the biggest hurdle was with the
drive pulley for the supercharger. You could go to the wreckers and grab any 5
rib belt from any Toyota and bolt it on to your stock crank pulley but then you have
to make sure its balanced or it'll shake
shit outa ya bearings or throw the belt.
I had a new crank/drive pulley machined
and balanced so that I could decide the
diameter (which determins how much
boost the s/c puts out).

Mad Manx, what carb are you runinng?
Is the setup draw thru? and if so have you had any probs running fuel thru the supercharger? as normally on the 4AGZE they only run air being fuel injected

What model type 3 are you installing it on.

with a fasty or notch it would be easier leaving the engine cover off, and allowing the blower to sit ontop of the engine.

you will have to make some special shrouding for the fresh air inlet to the engine.

11cab,
I'm using a single thraot holley at the moment with the supercharger blowing through. To do this I have a plumbback into the airbox which is vacume
controlled. This stops the butterfly in the carby from being damaged when I back off
or clutch.
The rotors in my s/c are resin
coated so I'm not sure how they would go
in the long run with a drawthrough setup
although I have heard of it being done without problems.

Travin, any chance your planning to come to the BLBVW Beach run to Rainbow Beach in Jan? I'd love to see the car in person. There will be a couple of people coming down from up your way.
