Info Needed on replacement seats for Buggy
Need some information on what seats will fit the Meyers Manx for replacement of the old short back ones. I would prefer a bit of comfort so there
must be a seat from one of the local Jap cars which will fit right in. Do any of the Jap cars have small seats and are mounted flat on the floor so
that I can just weld in the new runners?? What does everyone else have for seats?? Suggestions re seat replacement please??
Cheers

Hey Doug. 80's Celica seats work well in a buggy. They aren't the easiest to mount but they are very comfy and supportive and just fit in nicely...

Sounds OK. When you say they aren't easy to install. I assume that you have to use the whole celica runners including the mounting hardware or how
did you do it??

Here you go Doug, a basic look at the mounting, using modified volvo rails bolted directly in replacement of the original riveted toyota rails. They
took some engineering, and could be made a simpler way quite easily, but these are VERY strong and rigid.

And if you have the original dips in the floor, you need to weld these little brackets in.

Thanks for the photos etc., Steve. Trouble is that I can't use a welder to save my life. I have to get something which will fit and then get
someone else to do the dirty work for me. I have seen somewhere that Diahatusu seats fit as well. Will have to take a look at them at a wrecker and
do some measuring. I also like the look of the seats in the Max Fx buggy and will get in touch with them and see what they use. Also what seats do
they use in the Sharpbuilt buggies. Must be plenty of seats which fit if you know exactly what you are looking for. I've seen some OBX seats on
ebay which seem to be OK. They are sold through one of the Auto mobs here in Qld. Seats cost $250 each with runners but then you have to mount
them.
Decisions decisions.

Haven't worked out how much I want for the short backs. I'll think about that when I get some replacements. But will keep you in mind when the
time comes.

I'm on the Gold Coast Qld. Don't know how much it would cost to get up here. Your offer much appreciated. I will keep it in mind. I'm
looking at some seats from a buggy which just need reupholstering, I'm told and they will fit right in so will let you know.

I recently had my fibreglass buggy seats reupholstered in a UV stabilised vinyl and it cost me $240......that was on top of the original purchase
price of the seats, so the trimming is the expensive part of seats.

Andrew, I see you still have your sarcastic sense of humour........the seats are important, we don't all sit on the floors of our buggy like
you........

Graham, I'm with you. I want a bit of comfort. But didn't realise that it would cost so much to get a seat reupholstered. I thought that $150 a
side would be tops. Will have to talk to some people here on the Gold Coast to see how much I can get them done for.
Thanks for everyone's help with this seat thing.

I have some comfy high back fibreglass buckets from a Manx, padded and all. Mounted on VW runners ready to go straight in. After $150 the pr.
Any jap seats can be made to fit. Custom Offroad will do it for around $150 the pr. A blue plate cost $80 on top of that.
So you buy ya jap seats - $150 pr Get em fitted $150 pr and blue plated - $80 = $380 and u have great comfy seats, fully trimmed and look tough and
complianced......
Get jap seats with runners less than 450mm apart and low profile if you don't have a lift kit in ya buggy.

MX5
I do know that MX5 (Mazda) seats fit in and are comfy and Look GREAT..
No as far as mounting I do not think there is much different in the way the runners sit..
I know of a Buggy (Manx) in Brissie that has them. If you need a squiz at the way they are bolted down U@U me and I will ask the young lass about a
time you could take some measurements.....
I guess first talk to a wreckers about the price on these seats and see if the work into your Budget...
The other way you could go is to get a race seat, they come with all manner of brackets and spacers.. Usually
Good luck..
