Not got a photo but I reckon a Type 3 IRS rear may be easier as the whole subframe unbolts from the body.
Just a thought!

I don't know about IRS, but Jeff Walsh from up the north coast has a trailer He built using VW bits...
The axles can be screwed up or down.... ie.. the trailer can go up or down with a cranked handle...
I check it out at Valla usually when its there...
It may just be the torsion bars and swing arms...
I can't remember any more , sorry..

kombi trailers rule
I've built a trailer from a kombi body thats been cut up and modified. I had an engineering firm weld up a draw bar to the main chassis rails and
torsion bar housing. I told them I wanted to drag this trailer up to cape york and the kimberlies so build it strong, when I got back a couple of days
later I almost fell over. They used 6x2inch gal rhs, totally over kill but at least i know its not going to crack or bend( I'm not so sure about the
rest of the 30 year old body). I've made a storage box underneath where the engine & gearbox used to be. I'm basically setting this trailer up
as a pop-up and fold-out camper trailer. The kombi irs suspension and brakes are superb,Its usually a $1500 option to fit irs to a regular trailer
,but if you use a kombi set up you can almost get it for free from a rusted bus. I havent done any serious off-roading yet but I've thrown it around
some of the corrugated back roads and it handles like no other trailer I've ever towed. I've only got little 14inch wheels and stuffed shockers so
its only going to get better when I hook up the factory brakes, fit some taller tyres for offroad clearence and get some shockers that actually work.
My wife is so impressed , I'm building her a garden trailer(thats another code for a motorbike trailer I reckon) something that has more of a flat
bed and shorter sides . So my recommendation is get out that gas axe/angle grinder/sabre saw or what ever takes your fancy and cut out those old IRS
rear ends.Sorry no pictures but I'll be dragging it to valla if I get it painted in time.

onto the stock location on the arms and onto the rails on the trailer. I have used complete rear eds as well so the shocks just stayed stock.
With the beetle IRS I just left it all stock

here is the rear end of a 76 that I gave to Brad, it looks just like a trailer just cut the torsion bar and widen it to suite.
