Dune buggy project

Hi all, I ma hoping to start real soon on my first VW project. I want a shortened buggy. I've been told that the 68-71 beetle is an ideal starting point. I have a chance to buy a '68 model beetle thats been in the same family since new. It has some surface rust, leaky motor sagging suspension etc... still rego'd.. what do i reckon its worth?

I guess i only need a chassis, electricals, windscreen and heater stuff the rest will be sold off, probably through here and the trading post. any ideas?

any better suggestions?

I have spoken to a guy in Wollongong about the chassis shortening and also to Stan Pobjoy for an engine am i going the right way?
