Hey Guys,
I have a magazine around somewhere...I think its Volksworld from about 5mnths ago, Pommy mag....guy has a 2332, usual engine for drags..big heads 9:1
comp fk89 and IDA's . It is a van with no windows...but not a split from memory. It was the first bus to lift the front wheels outside the U.S.
(about a foot). did 14 seconds...and wth a few future adjustments to gears etc....wanted to get into the 13's.
I'll look at home for it...

i know the pic you're talking about.
It's an early bay Panel van.
It is bottle green (with a matt black nose panel and polished wide 5 Erco wheels). It is lifting the front wheels in the pic.
It's in issue No.1 of Ultra VW on page 63 in a Bug Jam report.
According to the caption, it is owned by Mark Prosser and ran a 14:32 quarter. The writing on the side says,
"Auto Techniks, type 2 performance".

Thats the one....
I was looking tonight for the mag...I couldnt find it.
Pretty impressive for a bus..low 14's, especially normally aspirated. Wouldnt you like to run a few people in that to see their faces....

Back in the early 80's a US bay was doing 11's with a turbo TIV an slicks.
The bus was the company hack during the week! The bus lives in Belgium now with a hot T1 engine in it.
Kawell's had a very fast splitty that did 10's, but was far from legal, though it was driven on the streets!!!!
I'm looking at low 15's - high 14's with my T3 when I finish it! If I can get the trans to hold together!!!

trans stuff
Don't know if it's relevant, but the guy who owns the C&V prepped gray drag beetle was using a type 1 swingaxle box in front of his 700hp+,
turbo-nitrous, Pauter engine. He reckons the key to keeping it all together is bracing the case as per this page,
http://perso.calixo.net/~dubois1/smallw7.jpg
And also staying with a maximum 8" slick. He said that Ron Lummus always broke stuff when he used wider tyres than that.
This webpage also has some interesting advice on trans building for racers,
http://www.geocities.com/Baja/Dunes/9702/transtalk.html
Hope this helps. As for gearsets and stuff check out,
http://www.albinsgear.com.au/vw.html
These guys took over the market when Holinger went upmarket.

Check out www.lbc2.com they have the specs on a bus in the UK that's pretty quick. And would go
quicker if he took the camper kit out of it!

Wacked1....All the busses I mentioned ran VW transaxles. The Kawell Splitty was pure drag....So don't even think about! The bay ran a late 091 trans
that was built to the hilt and I think the whole rear end was mounted in a fabbed subframe, as you no doubt know, there aint a whole lot holding one
of these together and even a warm 1600 can do some serious damage under there!
When I finish my under carriage on the my bus I'll be posting some pics...hopefully that might help a few people out....

No problem.....I haven't done that for a while.....Looking to get down the farm next week to do some more work...Haven't touch it for over 4 months
cause of study and family commitments, not to mention the wife!
You bus sounds like a monster.....There use to be a 4.4 Leyland powered bay here a while back...Man that thing got along well....An EFI 308 or later
Ali Chev or Ford would be even better....Or maybe a Lexus!!!!!
Stop it Simon, your giving youself new projects....Maybe I should sell the SVX and go Lexus!!!

Oh....I have gone late on this one....First WBX I have ever owned....
It's an 85 model panelvan....Super ugly at the moment, but I have hope for it in the future....Don't see too many late buses done up here in
Oz...Loads in Europe and it is nice having all those creature comforts...
Maybe I'm getting old!

The plan with mine so far. I’m going to toss the 4.4 V8 and convert to a Holden engine it’s a 5L 308 I've just picked up the heads today, they are
ported polished jobbies with L34 valves roller rockers medium sized cam and lifters they flowed approx 400 HP induction is a custom made EFI with 4BBL
type throttle body setup, bottom end not too over the top just freshened up with 30thou over flat top pistons and ARP rod bolts. Not sure of HP yet
but will let you know when it’s in, hoping for 2 weeks time and should be good for 14’s if not 13’s this engine ran a flat 12 at eastern creek in a LJ
torana. Can’t wait to get it going

I saw Amazer's Kombi race at Willowbank in 1994 and it was running 14's from memory. Also saw a T3 dual cab in a magazine that runs 11's with a V8.

bigbruvabob.....Can'y wait to have you guys back over this way....The scene here is a little slow, and it needs you touch to spice it up a bit! As
for your bus project...I think there was one for sale on the forum a short while ago....The cost to do the conversion yourself aint cheap....Justa
thought.
As for a Pic of Chris' bus on two wheels.....I think I have one somewhere, but from memory it was the 2 right hand side wheels!!!!! Hitting the a
corner in the sprint @ Valla!
As for VW powered busses only.....Pppphhrrt!
Why leave it there? Racers are hotroddeers as far as Im concerned, and the definition of a hotrodder is someone who attempts to make a vehicle do
something it shouldn't by what ever means possible.
