71Superbug

Check out the suspension page on http://www.superbeetlesonly.com  and look at the top post called shimmy (I think).

Super beetles were renowned for this steering vibration you've discovered and it was kinda there down fall. Its not hard to deal with, check all the suspension bushes are in good condition and if not change them to Urethane. And most importantly of all get the front wheels balanced on the car. If you read the info at SBO you'll know all about it (check out the tech section to).

Wheels-
Well MHO is that 17's are big for a beetle and 18's are too big for a beetle. 17's do look cool though, BUT read a post by Fullnoise about tyre sizes in the racers edge forum and you'll know what I mean. It's no big deal if you are just a show car but try finding a 185 or 195 tyre in 18 inches for track work ;) And try and avoid the "puppy dog with big feet" look :bounce

And lastly youth is not against you, If I'd learnt what I know now 10 years ago I can only imagine what I'd be doing now. Just do lots of reading and lots of asking- and remember that you'll never know it all- thats part of the fun of it

Cheers
Jeremy

PS those are pretty cool looking wheels!!!

you might want to fit a strut tower brace because they flex at about 80km and cause a shudder.
