WTB performance Heads complete 1600 TP - any advice?


i have a 1600 TP

i hope to have a 1641 kit

running a single DCNF 40

Empi Monza pipes

any advice on where - what - how much for performance heads

Keep your stock heads and get a 3 angle valve job. IF you have change get your manifolds matched ported.

But before you spend $$$ on matching manifolds of a single card put the $$$ towards a set of Webers

Unfortunately experience is the only answer.

Try and drive some friends cars - or at least be driven in them
Also read.

The difference between my progressive and my IDF's was massive.

Here is a good article to start with on carbs

then go back and read the other articles..
Just becareful of spending money that dosent let you expand later.

Spending is bad enough - but when you change track and havre to spen again..........

No offence but ditch the monza and get a propper tuned merged exhaust. S&S or something similar.

Nice comment on the exhaust...will make a big difference.

Have you a 009 dizzy yet...or similar???? Get one.

With the heads. Keep them standard and have a look at doing a little port work to the intakes to help flow. This will be done when you get the webers or similar. Also unshroud the valves and the exhaust valve has a lip inside where the valve sits which is very restrictive.

see http://www.cal-look.com  under tech articles...good one on do it yourself porting.

webers or dellortos...maybe 36mm or possible 40 idf's or dells are drlla ..either way $500 approx.

Get the fuel in well, burn it efficiently and get it out with ease but control and you will notice a big change.

Your valve seats get 3 dif angles cut on them to contour the edge and let the mix in easier std i think is 1 angle and the valve sits on that,the other 2 angles are either side of the valve seat,jesus know im confused.:)

Guys, are you sure that webers / dells wont be overkill on a 1641 with a standard cam ?

I reckon for the money, and ease of setup / tuning - get a pair of kadrons. I'd still get the headwork right, but unless you are putting a decent cam in it or bigger barrels and pistons, I'd go with kadrons.

There were what looked to be a really schmicko pair on here a few days ago for $425 - bargain price ! (wouldnt buy you one weber !).

Horses for courses I guess.

I wont knock them cause i have never driven with them

BUT

I have driven my 1600 stocker with IDF36's and it was SWEET!

For the $$$ if you can get a set of Webes for the $700 mark i would go for them

But to eack his own

you need to have 10 different motors and then drive another 10

I agree, know exactly what you mean - coincidentally, I only have kads on the 1835 now due to major issues trying to set up my 40IDF's.

Problem is they came off a fiat (I think) so one of the throttle shafts was too short for the linkage plate (so its tack welded on there now), and then the linkage fouled on the manifold, and then there was a bad fuel leak as they were missing a gasket somewhere, and then it started, but only on two cylinders......... At the time I didnt have the time to sort them out, and now..... well, the kads are due for a rebuild soon, so I'm of two minds - dont know if I should chase some jets and bigger vents for the kads, or try and get the webers set up ?

No one in Perth seems to know IDF's, or if they do, they steer well clear of them.... which is a shame.

well I have two motors with 44idf's and one with Kadrons......................................all 1916cc..............But I think for a 1600 the Kadrons would be better suited. As a matter of performance, on a pobjoy base 1916cc the 44idf's do not produce any more HP than the Kadrons, so you can still get very good performance from the Kadrons.
But as Blue74l has said, if you see a cheap set of smaller webbers for sale then get them.

As for the heads, as long as they are 040's and not the early 113 numbered heads then just keep them.
