Pop outs for Fast backs... NO HINGES!!

I am just wondering how many people have seen the pop out side windows for the type 3 fastbacks.
They didn't have any Hinges....
The Glass actually bent... Yes that is correct.. about 1/3rd of the front of the window was fixed... and the rest just BENT when the window catch was pushed out.... Now that couldn't have cost much more than a standard window. So why didn't they all have them....

I have a pair of these in my shed. They do not have hinges per se, but they do have a pivot point about 7'' from the front edge of the glass and rely on the flexibility of the rubber, as the front portion of the glass does indeed stay in contact with the rubber at all times. :)
