Dash filling

Due to problems finding good dashes to suit type3's I am toying with the idea of getting the dash filled and smoothed under the existing cover. Theres a speaker mount and grill and some elongated vents.
If this is possible and cost effective i will make some annodised bezels to sit behind the existing guages where they need to be spaced out.
has anyone had any experience in dash filling or smoothing.

PS this will not prevent a new dash pad from being fitted at a later date.
