Exhaust Question

Does anyone know if an out of balance exhaust (ie on half of the engine less restricted tan the other) can make the engine run like a bag of shit.
I was messing with my Ute today and converted the stock single tail pipe muffler to a twin large bore tail pipe home made jobby. The new pipe that I welded in is a lot louder than the original.
I take it the single tail pipe mufflers have different internals than the twin (beetle type)??
It`s kind of like it won`t rev up properly and is poping and farting.
Think I better weld the hole up hey??!!

definately sound like an exaust leak but then again could just be the engine needs to be tuned to the exhaust

check the bolts and gaskets are good off the head and there are no gaps in the exhaust apart for the outlets of couse...

The thing is, it ran fine before I cut another hole in the stock muffler (it had a pressing where the outlet on the twin tail pipe muffler is).
All I was wondering was why has it made it run like crap??
I have not touched any of the flanges etc and there are no leaks.
Cheers.
Graham.

most likely a lack of back pressure

Back pressure would be my guess as well as a leak.

VW engines rely on back pressure, without it they do run like crap and have heaps less torque....
