Fuel Guage 74 L Bug
My mechanic quoted me 300 bux plus to fix the pesky guage. Does anyone know of a cheaper way. He told me the sender is R**ted and it needs a trickler
??? or something like that. I really would like a fuel guage but don't wanna spend huge $ on it. |

Fuel sender Needed for 1303S "L" Beetle
Yes the sender is usually the problem...
gauges don't give much trouble....
Just buy a sender from a VW Parts shop and fit it yourself...
The old one just unscrews... just unscrew the sender unit itself... no screws...
then just screw in the new one and connect up the two wires...
They won't cost anything like $300... probably under $100...
Mick Motors in Brisbane probably sells them...

replacing the sender isnt hard mate most people can do it its just that it can be a pain to get in if tis the same sender thats in a sbug. but the
voltage stablizer is unavalable so they convert it to a solid state which would cost about $200 and is done by any of the vdo service agents.

Well, You can buy the sender unit itself... from a VW spares shop...
and install it Yourself... hook it up if it doesn't work..
then take it to someone....
then they won't have to charge You for taking the old one out and installing the new one.... plus they cannot charge You heaps for the sender as You
have already bought it...
thats what I would do....
Plus, if You then need a voltage stabiliser, try getting a 2nd hand one... wouldn't cost $200.00.....
