a question about the coil


hi guys am going to change the coil over on andreas roadster to a gt 40 that i have but my problem is the coil on the car is not marked with +ve or -ve. Can someone please confirm that power from ignition goes to +ve and -ve goes to distributor. Cheers david

A coil will work either way round....
although Not as well, when its around the wrong way...
and it can cause problems...

Positive + Power to the coil +
Negative - to the points & condenser.

make shure its a gt40 not a gt40R as the R model is designed to work with a ballast resistor and will quickly destroy your points if you use it

ah ha!


yes lee thank you i believe that this is the problem with the coil on there at the moment.As when i hook up my dwell meter to what should be +ve it nothing happens but when i hook it up to what should be -ve i get reading. this is the reason i want to change the coil over as it is getting me confused.

has anyone tried the gt40t (transistor) coil? according to the packaging these are better at operating through high heat and vibrations. i'm thinking i might try one.
