DANG! It's the question marks! XMB doesn't like 'em in URLs and tries to make them "safe".

Thanks for the info Jimby, I have been thinking along the same lines for my Oval currently. Its a good clean car, but I would like to have a bit more fun with it before it gets the full works resto.
Have been thinking about the Targa Tasmania rally (don't know if you have heard of this)
Need to do all the things you have done, roll cage ect. Would be a lot of fun. :thumb

targa tas

if your going to run the targa tas, nuild it strong and reliable :) a 1974 porsche RSR replica won this year so its suitable for an air cooled car :)

the most important thing is to register your interest with the organisers and get a full list of regulations for safety and originality for the cars, especially if you have a car that can enter in a vintage classification. for a quick idea on classic car regs for rallying you can take a look at http://www.hrct.co.uk

when it comes to safety you have to be brutally honest with yourself and not cut any corners on build quality. it may cost a small fortune to build a stage spec car so try and get sponsorship and good deals off suppliers, try and buy aussie too as local traders like to give discounts.

fit things that will save your life, ignore things that just look good. over engineer wherever possible (like fitting larger cage plates than specified)

theres no point in having a fancy cage and harness and seats if you mount your seats on the origianl sliders, when you roll the seat will part company with the sliders and you'll be like a pea in a whistle and the safety equipment will mean nothing so try and figure you what can possibly fail in the system and maintain the integrit of the structures.

on the TT youll have a co driver so involve them at every stage as their comfort will help them navigate and help you complete the rally.

theres a dude in the western suburbs of sydney that builds racecars and would be a good help becuase he loves bugs :) ill find his details

if you look on suppliers websites to get an idea of equipment specs and costs

go to http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk

Jimby you are right about the safety features. I wouldn't skimp on these. One of the family members of the company I work for rolled a Replica 36 SS Jag at the last one. No roll bar and bad injuries.

The Targe Tassie thing would be the ultimate. Have done a few rough numbers on the cost and you would probably need up to 10K to run on a shoe string.
Have downloaded the all the entry info and a early VW may be accepted. There are rules to the entry relating to race history, desirable cars, acceptable cars ect.
Pretty complex actually. Would need about a year of planning. Money is the biggest hurdle.

The dark side is fine I'm ready. Anth the latest news since the cruise is that I'm going to lower DR L!!:D One day at least. Have to read up on it, pro's and con's, looks etc

Bel will be a stock daily driver, Dr L - low and so cool. He's excited:bounce

No really if I had the ability, the timeand the money I'd have an rally VW, a dragster, a big shed.... No I'd love a car to play in the muds with!!:)

1/4 mile

it ran a rather dull 17.96 on the 1/4 mile, i had just fitted the 1500 box the day before and the gearstick wasnt putting it into 1st all the way so it was popping out, the 17.96 was with a really soft launch in 1st.

i recon it will run a 17.5 with the 1st gear engaged :)

not quick for a 36DRLA 1641 but its only got stock heads and an engle110 and stock compression ratio.
