Instructions for installation of dual webers


I've now got all the bits and pieces to install my twin 36mm webers on my 1600tp, however there is no instructions that came with the cb performance hex bar linkage, but there is a multitude of different nuts/connections etc. :mad:

Does anyone know where I can get of the internet, (or does any one have) a set of instructions for installing this?

The one thing they might not mention is you have to take a little dowell pin out of your heads
This can be a real pain if it is in the car

What jets, E's & vents are you set up for now??

Are they old Alfa carbs??

I will be REAL interested because you are the only other person i know that has ACTUALLY run these
I had some real different jetting to the norm

Had a few probs on my 1776 but SWEET as on a 1600 i ran.

If / When i go beetle again i will be going 1600 and 36's again :)

I actually, couldn't tell you, but I got them off this forum, from someone who had also had them on a 1600, and am assured they are ready to go.

Engine is in the car, and I was going to try and put them on without pulling the motor (I can never seem to get the car high enough).

I was just in the bookshop reading a book that ran through the installation proceedure, so I knew about the alignment dowel. It also said a to mount the end pieces on the hex cross bar at 60 degrees to each other. The CB performance linkage sheet doesnt seem to say this. Is this correct?

yes it will make sense when you put it together.

You sort of want the end arms sitting flat-ish and the accelerator cable down and towards you

i will look for a picture now

trying to get the front nut on with dual is hard in a bug. In the super i ended up grinding down some 13mm spanners so i could get them in the space. get the carbs on the manifolds and then the manifolds on the engine was the best way i found. Then the base plates and work your way up. I have the same linkage, once the carbs is on its easy. if you want any photo's just say.



I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

Ahh... Bix! that reminds me

Go to a VW shop and get some 11mm nuts

What i mean is you can get 13mm thread but they have 11mm bodies.
It takes a 11mm socket.
Then get yourself and extension kit for your sockets. I bought a kit that had a 2", 4" and 10"extensions. You join a few together and work down from the top

Also - take the engine lid off. Replace the hinge pins with R clips or old dip sticks.
It is MUCH easier working down rather than in fron the front and down

Thanks guys, appreciate the help.
In these pictures, the angled pieces at the end of the cross bar seem to be at the same angle relative to the cross bar, not 60 degrees to each other, as the book I read.
So I should trust the pictures, I think?

Also the manifolds I have are identical, should they be mirror image (and the shop has sent one wrong one?), or does one lean forward and the other backwards, hard to tell in the picture.

The end pieces are the same as each other. It is the centre piec that is different.

You really should go and have a look at a dual set up in reality. It will REALLY help you.
Can you go to a VW store some where and look at a set up???

Hey Kafer Lover before shovin all this together can u get some details of what u have and write it down and store it for future referance yur gunna need it,ie,main venturi size look down the throat with a torch shoud be 28mm but check all 4 to be sure.Main jet size,air corrector jet,emulsion tube,u can check all these at once they come out together from the top with a screwdriver and there a brass colour,check all 4 of everything just because some guy said they were workin alright before dosnt mean much u hafta check and know and be sure of everything yourself,and be prepared for a steep learning curve,u can do it but only if u are prepared for a challenge,many people before have given up on dual carbs because they thought it was just an install job,its not.:)

There are two types of manifolds. straight and offset All that matters is if you have straight manifolds you have offset linkage mounts, and offset manifolds, straight linkage mounts.

The arms are at 60 degrees, on a hex bar each corner is 60 degrees from the next which makes it real easy to work the spacing.
