What the hell is goin' on with our hobby
Well I don't think I've ever jumped on the soapbox but I think after some recent events it's time.
I came home from work today (I finished at 12 on fridays) and the house was nice and quiet. Perfect time for reading the latest edition of VW trends.
Now i'm the sort of guy who reads them cover to cover even the editorials.
One in particular along with some recent events got my back up. At a show in the US a big player in the locak scene had his totally original 21 window
stolen full of parts and even a motor on it's way to the new owner. Same night a guy had his stock original beetle broken into and all the rare
accessories removed even took the W deck lid.
Now obviously this was done by someone in the scene who knows the value of certain spares etc.
Why should it worry us ?. Well within the last fortnight a unique splitty has gone missing from WA and I heard a rumour that some stuff went missing
from Valla. Now i'm not implying anything here but it's starting to get a little close to home. From tome to time people post threads about badges
that go missing and I've already lost one VW to thieves.
The last week a lateish model car was broken down on the side of the road that I passed twice a day. Within three days a bit at a time this thing was
vandalised till it had no windows left. I even rang the local cops but they said they could do nothing until a certain time at which they got it towed
but only because its a trafic hazard. Owner must take some heat on this but is this society today.
Personally i won't park either of my cars unless I can see them and if I can't I'm there every half hour checking.
So all I can say is lock up people as all our VW's no matter what they look like are precious and now targets.

Bloody hell. Worlds going down the toilet by the sounds of it. Hopefully by keeping the general VW community close you can try to catch out VW
'thiefers'. Keep an eye out for the guy selling rare VW parts out of his boot.

Kids pinch cars and/or badges because they are vandals. Thats not a VW thing thats a fact of life today. I agree with you about the stolen parts,
thats gotta be VW person. Its not really surprising though. Has to be some bad apples amongst us, however unpleasant it is to think of.
I get the shits with abandoned cars too. There was an obviously abandoned falcon that I wanted to score the brakes off a while ago. Like your story,
it got beaten up more and more every day until it was burnt out. Fire brigade had to come (I assume), Hiab truck had to come and take it away. Would
have been nicer if the police and council had of let me pick it up when I asked.

Christmas Two and a half years ago, I quit my Job and went to Canberra for a week to revaluate my Career Path. While I was around the Corner from my
Brothers place I noticed a very nice HG Holden broken down and abandoned. The next morning I went past and it was burnt out with a young Bloke
literally balling his eyes out.
:cry
He was there in another Car with a Mate obviously to take it home or fix it what ever.
The following day it was on the front page of the Paper.
Some Dudes were Cruising by and seen the HG on fire and some TOOL driving away. The Dudes in the car followed the Arsonist home and said "we have
your Rego number and we know where you live, if you don't go and Confess to the Cops we will do it for you".
So he did, Happy ending for H G owner not so nice for the Dick Head who had to pay for it.
As for fellow VW owners knocking stuff off. They should realise that the Internet and this Forum has made the VW community through out Australia very
accessible. For example say Somebody knocked off my "Rare Accessory", and I got on here and told every one it was Stolen, that would make it hard
for anyone else to put it on there Car and go to a Show or be seen with it even if it was Interstate.

I'm getting nervous enough with Bel almost finished....:jesus
I wish people or whoever...like kids badging...could learn to respect someone elses property and not do these things...They have no idea what work has
gone into and sacrifises made to get these rides to what they are.... :cussing
Same goes for any sort of thieving....It a horrible feeling to know someone has been in your house...and things you might have worked hard for
stolen
My 2 haven't been badged yet but I look at the noses every time I go back to where they are parked......

i had my running boards flogged off me at valla this year,
that did not make me a happy chappy.
A non-vw owner would not know what to do with them, so that made me pretty ucking angry.

I can't believe someone taking running boards....they're not real easy to get off quick...and unless they had a use for them...why...Where they
stainless steel or something rare....?
That's pretty low....
I don't remember hearing about things going at Valla last year....what's going on!!

Dude that's a LOW ACT, I never thought that would happen in the VW community.
That's the sort of thing you would only expect to see at the Summer Nats in Canberra.

I check my Ford XR8 Badges every time I park it some where, the little Bastards love to knock those Badges off.
Especially the F.P.V or Tickford Badges, they stick them on there standard falcons and try to look cool.
It's a age old problem unfortunately and it SUCKS.

Hi
When I was kid the hot item was a 179 badge, the bodgies used to wear them on their belts.
I guess that the VW community is a cross section of life, there’s good and bad people everywhere, but I would have hoped that our little group would
be immune. Hopefully we can stamp this out by not buying stolen stuff and all of us being vigilant.
There was a guy at Nambucca who I believe has been in the big house for steeling VW parts.

I'm glad we rescued that broken down bug near my house at the start of the year, it had all it's windows smashed out and was on the path to
burnination. The coppers even thanked us and told us where the owners were.
