This is a hard one franko...
When You adjust the points gap, You are changing the dwell angle... and in a normal kettering ignition system which was invented in the early part of the last century....

When You adjust the gap of the points the dwell angle changes...

to read further, and to stop Me having to use My worn out old brain, look at this site...

http://www.vtr.org/maintain/ignition.html

cheers

thanks auto bug, thats good for points but the magfire replaces the points with a sensor.it seems like its not adjustable , that is, the dwell stays the same regardless of the small positional changes you can make.??????????????

Dwell angle is the number of degrees the points stay closed for. So this figure is meaningless on your system

Yes, it seems that it cannot be changed although You have to be able to adjust it to start with...
Not the Gap... the timing with the distributor...

I agree that the dwell is not adjustable on Your system...
I wasn't sure what You were using...
Just set the timing and forget it...
