Avatars

What's with the massive avatars I've been seeing recently? I thought they were limited to 100 x 100?

What Avatar??? it's Not Me.... Yet???

I also just wish I could post an Avatar...
even one that doesn't move would be OK..
Once I have a go at it , I apologise for the large size,... as I seem to have problems with the Size of Pics... either VERY LARGE or very small... mostly the former....

too big

i must say that some seem to be getting too big and making my PC struggle with certain pages.

i like the creativity, dont get me wrong, but i think they should all be the same size.

Well you see ...

When I originally setup the forum I changed the code to limit the avatars to 100 x 100 . Now since we have had a few upgrades the chnages in the members.pho and memcp.php have been lost. Simple you say just change it again. Well as luck will have it the codeing of how it works has changed a little and uses a different sort of scripting which I haven't yet figured out 100%. I will sort it soon enough and teh result should be better than before and easier to use with an upload fascility (* I hope )

Anyway for now people will have to look after themselves. Admins should be able to delete avatars from profiles that are too big.

PS. If You really want to know why I am having problems drop Me a private email.:o:(:(;):bounce

I cannot seem to get an Avitar up for the life of me!!

What am I doing wrong?
When I insert the destination of the pic in the Avitar space provided eg: C:\Windows\Desktop\notch2.jpg it says it works but it obviosly hasnt, so I go to have a look and its automatically taken out all of the forward slashs so it looks like this C:WindowsDesktopnotch2.jpg What the???
The pic is only 100x100 so its not over limit.

Brad, could I sent my pic to you please? I know this is a cop out but Ive tried for hours!!
Unless someone could explain it here, as I would prefer to learn myself.

To fix the missing in action avatars, go to your original avatar post, grab the URL and plonk it back in your profile's avatar URL field.

I did this with Jen's, and it worked.

I'm going to say a very rude word

I need to hack out some code to stop it from doing this.

I think it is a really good idea that they are all the same size. The moving ones are good though.

not working

my problems continue,
i am now able to post images again, and after some toing and froing i got it to < 100 x 100.
problem is when i get the URL and paste it into the avator spot in my profile i still dont have my image back.

whats going on now?

can someone suggest a remidy, or better still may an administrator could just fix it.

the last image in the test section (post is "lost my avator" ) is < 100x100

Okay, here's the technical explanation.

There is this thing where you can do cross site scripting, and it's a huge security hole. The problem being that it's really hard to protect against it. Well, the code that protects us against it is also affecting how URLs are being re-written in the avatar area and forcing them to be HTML-ized. This breaks them.

Using the current front end code forces the code to HTML-ize the URL, and we need special characters (in particular ? and & ) to display the avatars.

So I've hacked out that code, and in return, this will re-introduce the possibility of user side attacks against all of us. :-( :-(

So it is definitely possible to re-instate your own avatars now.

I've fixed up everyone who noted they had problems.

I'm sorry, but I simply don't have time to do the rest. Please re-instate your avatars (if they're not already working) using the standard method.

In fact, looking directly through the SQL, I've fixed all the problems, so there are no more duff avatars. :)

YAY!

Silver, can you tell me the steps you did to manage to get the path of your image into the avatar. Don't actually re-do to your profile, as I've made it good again, but I'd like to know from upload -> profile how you managed to get a MacOS path into the system. It's probably a bug with the code, and I'd like for it to be fixed.
