Hillclimbing

Hi everyone,

I am intending to hillclimb my IRS/Balljoint beetle, but am unsure of what classes are out there.

I'm in Vic, but I am assuming the class rules are nationwide since they would be governed by CAMS.

Sooooo, can anyone list the classes, which one you would reccomend for a beetle to compete in and what the restrictions are.

Cheers,
Cam

btw; I haven't touched the engine and gearbox yet either, these will be determined by which class I'll choose to mess around with.

Best to speak to craig and he will probably say iam wrong here. normally 3rd catergory, then we run improved production and street registered here. with registered being softer. then these are broken into capacites. noramlly 1300 to 1600cc, 1600 to 2000cc, then dependant on oprganizer and entries, sometimes 2000cc to 3000cc or 3500cc and then an open class. the 1600cc to 2000cc are noramlly the most competive as they will have all the hot 2 L cars, escorts ,etc. Sometimes its almost worth while running just over 2000cc as they may be few cars in this class. I thik you can run in larger classes if you want. iam sure craig will knwo all this in detail and set it straight, as i normally race autocrss which jsut has engine sizes.

improved production or sports sedan.

Both classes are then broken into engine capacity.

As for which class.................depends on what you want to do to the car and how competitive you want to be.

unfortunately you can not run an under 2lt car in an over 2lt class, this is what I wanted to do as my times were a couple of seconds quicker than the 2-3lt class, but CAMS said no !!
Bugger!!

Best to buy a Cams manual and have a read of the several pages of requirements for each class.:)

MGCCQ also run road registered and then improved production as there used to b a group of ppl in each group normally sperated by a few secs. but that may just be a club thing.

Thanks guys, I'll try and get onto a CAMS manual and sus it all out - perhaps even check out some of the more race orientated clubs down here and see what their event and turn out numbers are like for the respective classes.

Cheers,
Cam
