Nearly finished

Well after lots of time, effort and money, my 65 is nearly ready, just waiting for some door skins, and seat covers. Finish the front brakes and away I go, I did a rebuild on the 1600 tp on the weekend and dropped that in (dont you love it when they start first time) it purrs real sweet ..I hope to take it to the shootout in Nov.I will be driven every day for work.
I still have to raise the rear end though it is on the stops at the moment I want about 30-40 mm rise.Can anyone tell me how many splines to rotate

Thanks Guys, this is the last VW I will ever restore! I have been so anal with this one it should last forever..This was a full pan off resto and the body was pretty much soaked in fishoil and wax after painting, every thing has been restored or replaced, the pan is two pack as is the body, all the bolts ,nuts and washers have been replaced with stainless steel and dipped in a fishoil/wax sloution before screwing then in.
It wears the colours of the splitty as these are my Company Cars, both are 65's This Bug has my 25 years of VW experience in it.
It better last
The next project if any will be a 356 for me and my son wants to do a Hot Rod (he's 5) so I will have a long break from weekend Mechanics
I will just enjoy them Both and believe me I will never sell them

well skinnyboy, I have cheated a little, I have used my wallet for some of it and my time for the rest. I bought this Bug sight unseen, It was dug out of a garage where it had sat for 23 years ,it was virtually rust free and most of the parts were in good order as it only had 78K on the clock. Still unseen by me, I sent it to my panel beater/spray painter for a complete strip down ,repair and pan off respray. I kept getting call's from him screaming that it was unbelievable how little rust there was and what a great car she was, so I kept saying do your best then it will be worth it ....that cost me $7,000 and I believe that was a bargain. Whilst that was happening I came across a post here for a fully restored pan with everything done that you could do so I jumped on that $2500. another bargain (although I am still waiting for the front brakes that were sold with it ) the rest i have done myself restoring and painting all the individual parts ect, rebuilding the twin port engine I was saving for this car and more expense buying the rubbers ect about $3500 and I will need to spend another $2000 or so to finish it and then there is rego and insurance .this has taken about 9 months or so. I feel this is all worth it to have a car that should only need servicing for many years to come, plus lots of fun
So Skinnybug better get a fat wallet

If ya wanna get techy on ride height adjustment,A good way to also do it, is take a tape measure in hand and find a reference point on the body( i use outer edge of the bump stop cap off the pan)
Measure down to the top of one of the 3 bolt holes that your axle attaches onto the spring plate.(as you need axles out to do this)
Take measurement...use same hole both sides.
Now readajust outer spring plate(inner spline is a larger adjustment)
As you have a starting measurement to much or to little is now easily changed.
Hope it is of some help.
Works for me everytime....So does my tool throwing skills,but that should be a last resort!!!:D

Fat Wallet = kinda...

all panel work and paint will be done by yours truly, parts i'll source interstate. Hoping to get her "just right" I kinda have a knack for bargains and heres hoping I can get her looking as good as yours mate!! Hopefully I can have it rolling out of the shop in one years time. Its so inspiring to see the sweat and tears that goes into these cars, any anyhow what can you get for that money anyway? A new Hyundai? I know what I would rather invest in!!! Its all good, I'm so looking forward to this weekend, gonna get the new rattle gun out (Ingersol Rand one - 100 bucks off Ebay!!) and get busy!!!

Just checked the original chassis No it is 196508693... so I think that makes it a 66 however the Quarter window rubbers for the 66-67 did not fit and I got ones for a 56-65 they fit so I dont know what happened there maybe someone stuffed up with the labels on the rubbers the body number matches the chassis no????????
C'mon Dave oh wise one what have i got
as for this being the last resto......well I have what i want now and I cant see the need for another VW (unless I crash one of them again)

Yep u have a 66 Aussie Volkswagen Beetle.

1 = Beetle
9 = Australia
6 = 1966

Well actuall the engine lid gave it away with the 1300 and deleux badge fitted.

If your buying rubber from the USA remember they change body styles in 1965 bigger rear windows like out 68s and on

stripped back and painted the seat rails, got the paint matched up by the local auto guy who had heaps of touble with the greyish ivory colour used in early bugs he finally got it right and the 500mls I wanted became about two litres (anyone need some), new seat covers supplied by TMI and fitted by me
I am about a weekends work away from finishing this car, but this weekend I have to tile the verandah at the new house, so maybe next weekend?????????
