Follow the instructions in the top thread there on how to upload an avatar.
Yes, it is too big. If you use Windows use something like PaintShop Pro or Microsoft Office's Photo Editor to downsize it. On a Mac, there are
many image editors available, but I don't know the names of any as I've not been a hard core Mac user for about 7 years now. On Linux, use
mogrify from Image Magick.
