broke it- NEED HELP


ok people... need help, went out 4 drive with kids, leaving shops and st/whl goes 360 deg, no bang ,just stopped steerin, got towed home ..what should I look for, and is it easy to fix, got a baad thort in head , steering worm or such has broke, not gonna be easy...

its an Lbug right so it should have rack and pinion steering so its not that bad unless it has a steering box then you are up for a few $$$.

ok.. rack and pinion, suppose i gotta take fuel tank out or do it from underneath, does a 73 steerin box fit ?? got a 73 for spares, bloody thing was driving great.... bugga, thanks

at least with my fords everything is in sight, gonna have alook on weekend , had a quick peek underneath, looks like a blackhole under there

Hey barls... damn VW mechanic had done some work on front end, got reciepts and all from last owner, lifted car up..seems a steering shaft lock clamp ..threw a bolt and come off..easy peasy, gonna have 2 take out fuel tank tho..its not so hard, ....and VWCOOL I asked dumb questions to see what answers i got..it all adds up in the long run

Damn.... bloody thing broke again, this time the end from steerin box pulled off, seems the bolts dont engage the groove on either end, are they a specific size??,,, its bloody dangerous

yeh thanks, just startin to go thru all parts of drive train etc, as U said life threatenin, cant let my daughter drive it if I`m not sure of the work done B4, mite as well start the resto at same time
