How to mount a stereo amp

I want to put a CD stacker and amp in the front of our 68 beetle. I don't want to be pushing screws through to the inside of the car when I do it though.

What options do I have? I thought maybe a shelf running across the car so I can month them flat but how to attach that to the car without screws is the trick.

Thanks.

put the them both under the front seats as this is the best place for them as you dont have to get out of the car to change the cds in the stacker

or use a product called 3m red tape as it is double sided and is the stuff that they use to fit exterior trim strips with on new cars

I want to try and keep them in the front so people don't kick them if they sit in the back. The tape idea could work though.

Thanks Barls

Hi

Under the seat is a good place for the stacker, it evens out the ride for the stacker, less likely to skip.

would u still be talking about screwing it in under the seat?. when i screw both my amps under the seats (1 under each). weathering seemed to get through where i screwed through the pan because i forgot to seal it. im very lucky that i didnt ruin the amps by getting them wet. if u do anything like this dont forget to seal it :). and also;. when i had the amps under the seat people who sat in the back always managed to kick them. it was really pissing me off so i just though F*#K it. and placed a little wooden board along the gap under the seat. so that peoples feet could only hit as far as that. and the amps still had enough air not to get too hot.

thats just an idea.

Thanks guys. I like the idea of the velcro. I didn't want to drill through the floor because that is just one more area for rust to start. I think I will give that a go. :beer

Hi Tazz,
I thought about that but figured it may get too hot in there with the speakers on top and the shelf blocking airflow. Of course I am probably totally wrong about it so if anyone can put me right, let me know.

Ive got a 1971 bug and Ive mounted it all without drilling any holes in the car

I made a box that goes behind the rear seat which has a pair of 6.5" splits and an 8" sub. The bottom of the box is raised off the floor to accomodate my 6 stacker. The amp i screwed onto the front side of the box.

Ran all wires (2x speaker wire, RCA, stacker cable) through heat shrink and down the groove on the drivers side, like the electrical harness on the passengerside. Cant even see any bulging of the harness now its carpeted over and didnt need to drill any hole in the car. The wires were carefully pushed through the grommet on the passenger side from the trunk, along the front wall and then back

To change the cds i just need to pull the back seat forward. No equipment to get kicked and its all out of sight

If you don't want to drill any holes you can sikaflex some thick MDF to the underbonnet area then carpet it to tidy it up and screw the amp to it. Yes the MDF would be permanent (the velcro may be better in that regard) but it certainly wouldn't move around.

I welded four nuts to my under bonnet and made an amp rack to mount my amps:
