High Beam Switch on '60 Bug
I hope to soon have some time and $$ to be working on my '60 bug, have had a few looks at it lately in preparation (its on the other side of town so
I don't see it much).
There is a foot-switch on the bottom of the firewall, I assume its for the highbeam, only ever seen one other in my parents XY Falcon. Does this
sound right? The switch is mounted basically behind the clutch, to me I reckon its an awkward place to have a foot switch, I can see myself getting
all twisted up when trying to engage the switch.
Can someone enlighten me - is this the original position and type of switch? If so, how well does it work there? I'm pondering moving it elsewhere,
but how does it attach? Able to be moved easily?

That's the switch alright. You will find it works fine, if it really bothers you, and you have fixed everything else, then i suppose you can move it

It should have three screws to hold the wires-
Power - High - Low beam
Two screws hold it to the floor..
there is an indentation on the body for the switch...
for one on the left hand side and one on the right hand side..
You will see the identical idents with the carpet/rubber mats out...
They do work OK, and You will soon get used to moving Your foot to dim the lights... You won't have any problems....
after using it for a short time....

The indentation of the passenger side is only used on Left Hand drive Beetles...

Yeah, I know what your saying! It does take a little getting used to - some more than others (depends on shoe size usually!!:duh)
My '63 has the dipper switch in this location, and as I'm used to it now, it presents no real problems (except when changing gear and needing to dip
headlights!). I am in the process of re-wiring my '65 Baja so that the dipper is on the back of the indicator stick. I have used pre '68 type III
parts to do it (indicator stick and headlight relay). Haven't finished the conversion yet, but there is no reason why it wouldn't work....
