Wheels back to Steel!
Seeking advice / suggestions.
I have sunraysia wheel on the Dog-O-War and have considered powder coating / chroming and painting.
Did my homework last week:
* chroming is out. Not only is it heaps expensive at 230 a wheel, the chap here won't touch them because of the inner hub welds.
* Powder coating is more affordable at $50 - 60 a wheel depending in if they need blasting prior to heating and coating.
* Painting is not suggested by anyone as the paint will damage very easily and will look crap after returning from having the tyres refitted.
Preference -
I was considering having each rim sand blasted so they are blemish free (Currently powder coated white) and then either buff up and / or simply spray
with a fairly durable coat of clear before refitting and balancing.
Thought's , suggestions, advice.

Clear is just see through paint so you will have the same problem of them being damaged when you refit the tyres. as if they were painted
Suggest powder coating it is more durable as in your original wheels.
Get them blasted and then take them to the powder coaters as they have to be bare metal before coating.

Hi Bronze.
Welcome back.
I have had some wheels done as I had the rear steel wheels widened. Firstly they were sand blasted and then powder coated. But, before the powder was
applied the wheels were undercoated first. This was done by the powder coaters themselves, so I don't know what they used. This was recomended to me
by the mate that organised the powdercoaters as this keeps the rust at bay for longer than powder coat on its own. My roof was done the same way.
This was all done a year ago so how long will it last? I don't know. But they look as good now as when they were first done.

I see your point 57 Kombi. The clear will come off so If I did go that way it would have to become a regular thing.
The Powder coaters here will bast before coating for another 10 dollars a wheel. That puts the price at about 55 to 65 dollars a wheel depending on
the powder I choose.
I still like the idea of steel - not only because it's cheaper but it would suit the car well. To sand blast alone will cost 13.20 a wheel. The tyre
fitters here now have teflon guides which are guranteed not to scratch the paint.
See what a bit of research can do. Open the options up. This means I can paint the rims should I choose but the powder coating is the way to go for
long life. Rock's, brake fluid etc, etc will end up destroying the paint and any other coatings.

i painted some rims i had and as soon as i got the tyres put on them the paint came off around the edge of the rim.

Manxed - I have heard adout and have seen the colours and finish the undercoating gives. I think it's an add in that they put with the sand but
don't know how it works. Powder coating would be good but as the Baja has a custom 'shit' look anyhow I think have really good looking wheels would
look out of place.
I have decided on steel wheel finish and will rust proof the inner rim and lip leaving the outer wheel steel which will recieve a buff courtesy of a
grinder and then copious layers of clear before refit of the rubber. This will suit the Dog-O-War and set off the other steel work like the roofrack
and cage.

i sand blasted my rims at my work for free:thumb and sprayed them with plain black gloss acrylic....so far they are fine...if they get
cracked......sand..mask...touch up. but u defineatly need them sandblasted as it makes it a hell of alot easier...if your anywhere near castle hill in
sydney i' sandblast them at work for free...
