brake line question
hi all
i have got a double flate tool and talked to a few hot rodder guys that i know and even spoke to the guy at better brakes in penrith and was told that
a double flare is the right way to do the brake lines, after taking the old lines out the flare on the original lines is apparently called a "bubble
flare" that is only the first step of the double flaring process .
my quetion is , if i went ahead and put on the second flare (the recessed part in the centre of the brake line) which i have done, will this leak and
should i do the lines again, or will they be alright the way they are?
thanks darren |

Don't do it man.
The flare needs to match the receiver in the Caliper or Slave Cylinder. The different types are not compatible.

VW use a double flare not a single so it should be fine on a VW. Look into your M/C hole and see what it looks like.
As Mike said it needs to match or it will leak.

thanks
i will double check, its just that i heard that you only need to do the first half of the flaring process and i have done a complete double flare and
have been worried i went to far, and you are right we dont want any leaks thats why i am asking the question |

Well VW's are a double so they need the 2nd flare alhough my tool does both at once so I am a little ussure why it is a two stage process.

To see if you need a single or double flare, look at the bottom of the hole you're sticking it in. If it looks like it was drilled with an ordinary
drill bit, it needs a bubble flare. If it has a raised section in the centre it needs a double flare.
Hope that made sense. If it didn't then ask someone to explain it to you. Don't become a statistic.
