IRS Pivot Bushes... correct install

IRS trailing arm inner bush

Inside of bush has cut out section in the rubber which is in line with the two lugs on the outside of the bush (so you can tell where the offset is when you press in the bushes). There is also a "O" mark on the outside of the bush. What is the correct way to mount the bush in the trailing arm.. "O" to top (Oben?), cutout to top and bottom or cutout to front and rear?

Crikey! From memory, "oben" means top - but my german is a little rusty. I've got a magazine article on that job, but I'm currently on the move and all my stuff's in storage... if you happen to still have a problem in a week or two (I certainly hope not,) I'll scan it for you.

hey Graeme its about time you started hanging out here. Anyway this should be a simple job, when you place the rubber in the cavity of the torsion tube it really only alligns in one way. Thats the way it should go in. Use some talcum powder and its a breeze. Hey is this for your 944 stuff of is it just bug bits?? Hey throw up a few pictures of your car to inspire some of these purists :bounce

Hi

Graeme, your cars looking cool. I have a simple german text converter and it said that oben means above. I looked though all the books I have and none have mentioned anything special with lining up these bushes. I just used Teflon one in mine, I had to back my Konis off all the way but it rides fine now.

WRX Bug Boy.. these go in the trailing arm, not the torsion tube. Yes Oben = top BUT is this "O" mark actually intentional for the top when installed or is it just a random casting and not an "O" anyway? I thought sometimes they put an "O" or cast "Oben" on the torsion tube rubbers so I thought these might be the same. By the way these are genuine VW bushes not aftermarket.

Graeme, I've attached a picture of my porche traling arm prior to me fitting the bushes. If the dub one is the same you will see that there is nothing to indicate the orentation of the bush. This is what I was saying in my earlier post, I however assumed that this was the inner bush not the outer.

Cheers Stephen

hey hold the phone...your talking about the diagron arm pivot bush. Ahh you goose, just stick them in there is nothing special about there orentation. I used VW ones also. It was a massive pain in the ass to remove the old ones though :( come rond and borrow my air chisel to speed up the process.

On the subject of IRS arms does anyone know if the T3 squareback ones are the same as the 1302 ones?

I've got some squareback ones lying around, and it would be nice to tidy these up and fit my urethane bushes to these so I can just swap them over one day- then the car is not off the road.

I haven't honestly crawled under the car to compare them, but if some one knows or has seen a link then that would be great.

Thanks
Jeremy
