Master Cylinder
G'day,
On the 64 it is running a single line master brake cylinder. I am wondering if I can fit a dual line master brake cylinder and from what year should I
use? I want to upgrade the front to wide five discs and so a dual line would be better.
Also curious to know what you think of my resto so far?

Just use the master cylinder from a beetle with a disc brake front end. They are twin piston type (one for the front and one for the rear) and they
bolt straight in with no modifications.You then have one piston for the rear brakes and one for the front. Ring Mick Motors and tell him what you are
doing and he will sort it out for you......

I have a dual circut off a disc front end beetle, ill sell it to you for want it owes me... nothing, (plus freight) it looks ok, but im no brake
expert, you can however buy them new for around $100, the bug i got it off still has the disc front end(last time i looked), i can put you in touch
with the guy, its not wide 5..

Buy a new cylinder ATE German brand you wont have to worry about it again. Be carefull when bending the brake line to fit the cylinder....
dont kink it.
Make sure you have the free play adjusted right and mount the reservior on the fire wall under the tank
You can buy the blue flex brake hose from most VW shops use this to join the reservior and cylinder up
Ive had this set up on my car for years.... work well.

Thanks for all the info guys,
Lugnuts: Yeah I am going to run coilovers on the back. I am hoping that it will stiffen up the ride a bit. I am going to install a camber compansator
also but as with everything it all comes down to funds.
I am wanting to take the street racer approach but I know that the k & L front end is not the best option. But as the car was given to my
girlfriend and myself I can't complain.
I am hoping to have the body back on soon....fingers crossed.
Does any one know the minimum wheel size for the wide 5 front disc break conversion kits? I am currently running 13" on the front and 14" on the
back. So it should have a pretty good rack when I install some drop spindles. I have seen on some of the disc conversion kits that the minimum wheel
size is 15".

You will find that 13 and 14" wheels will hit on the caliper on the inside of the wheels.
If you need a disc kit to suit the K & L which will convet the front wheels to 4 stud contact Vintage Vee Dub in Sydney 02-9789-1777

Remeber that a disc/drum combo master cylinder will not work with front drum brakes, if you ever planned on having them at any stage.
Disc's need more hydraulic pressure than drums, if you hook up a disc M/C to a drum/drum system you'll lock up the front brakes if you look at them
funny.

What you are saying is that I won't be able to install a dual line brake master cylinder until I install the front discs right?
Thanks vw54 but I am going to keep the stud pattern wide 5. Thinking of getting the kit from CB Performance.

No thats not true. Of couse it will work Ive had one fitted to my oval for 20 + years... neaver had any trouble with it.
If thats the case how does the late model 1300 Beetle work it has drums and teh same dual circuit cylinder Of course they work and work good as
well.....
go ahead buy a new ATE German brand dual circuit cylinder and fit it to your car.
yep the CB kit and Drop stubs with discs bracket for K & L are also available from Vintage..... and hopefully the new wide five discs that
have narrower than STOCK track will be ready from Vintage soon.

For real?
Do you use some kind of proportioning valve?
Is the M/C the same as the ones on a Drum/drum??
Sorry for the misinformation, but thats what I've been taught. Maybe volksies are different.
