Yes they are semi auto Only for changing the gears...

A torque converter is connected to a flexplate which is bolted to the engine... the ring gear for the starter is on the torque converter... the inner part of the torque converter drives the 3 speed gearbox from Automatic Transmission Fluid that is pumped by the ATF Pump that sits on top of the engine oil pump, below the crankshaft pulley...

They can be driven in top gear all the time... so in that case -- it would be fully automatic... :):)

The starter motors are the same - special automatic starter motors, not the standard starter motor... these have bearings at both ends and are higher horsepower.

I don't think the type 1 flexplate would be the same...

I believe the type 4s would be different .. as it looks quite different in workshop manuals...

The flex plate from a Type3 auto engine will obviously fit any Type1 motor-same type of mount with the 4 dowell pins and the large gland nut.The Type1 plate will not fit a Type4 engine-different method of attachment. The Type4 plate will fit a Type3 torque convertor-same PCD mounting pattern.I don't know if the semi auto drive plate has the same PCD mount as a full auto for bolting up the convertor. The starter motors don't rely on the bush in the bell housing-it's integral with the starter like a normal type starter.

I think plastic would be better as paper would fall apart
