getting paint off??
hey guys,
i need to get the paint off the front of my kombi but im not to keen on paint stripper, my other option is sanding but that just makes it worse!, or
should i try some stripper?
any bad things about paint stripper i should know about?
will it damage or keep eating my paint??
or is there some thing else i could use to get it off?
ive roughly got about 3 layers of paint and it doesnt want to come off with the sand paper it just doesnt want to move!
please help!

stripper chemically alters the paint..
so figure out the exact area u want to strip. mask in a margin of 3cm where u want to remove paint to
so your going to put the stripper on the middle section of whrre u want to strip, put a thich even coat of stripper on the area, and cover with glad
wrap, to keep the ammonia in
wait for it to all bubble up,
(hour or two is safe if it's covered in plastic)
use a scraper, to remove the melted paint, and rinse with a lot of water to neutralise the acids, then wash it down with thinners,, one rag soaked in
thinners, another to dry it all off..
then remove the masking tape, and use the sander out for the 3cm margin u made.. this is so you know 100% there is no paint left on the panel that
could have been affected by the stripper!
also after washing with thinners, you will want to sand the bare metal with 120, or 180 grit paper, so new paint will stick!!

If you can apply stripper to only the area's you need safely,then scuff the paint with a 60 grit paper.apply stripper,make a coffee,and come back to
see it working.
You just have to be carefull with stripper as it doesnt set like a paint.
Meaning it stays jelly like,this can seep into fine edge's of your panels so make sure you clean really well around the edge's that youve
stripped.
You dont want to apply new colour only to have it bubbling back up at you from left over stripper in the metal.
Thinners will get ride of unwanted stripper.

best wy i have found to strip pint back..is to use 3M quick strip disks...get'em at bunnigs for about 12 bux each, slap in drill and blast away...it
takes the pint straight off...and buffs the metal ready for etch...does a beautiful job...they're just expensive...u can get black ones, which re the
ones i just described, or u can get a slightly larger one, and its brown...cuts just as good but its not as harsh on the cutting as teh black one
is...if u understand me...only prob is...if there is bog under the paint...the disc will tear the bog out aswell..

all good people i used a wire wheel sort of thingo on my drill,
works great and takes the paint straight off to bare metal!
only problem is the mess left from the brush, the whole ground was covered in em, although it took for farken ever to do, it is worth it!!. i used
etch primer from the can is this stuff suitable??? will it stop rust??? im just putting cheapo paint over the primer (rat looker) will this fade or
just come off???

clean and strip disks r good.. but a little too rough to paint over..
if youre doing a rat hen i guess there are no rules

paint strippers
alltools or some paint suppliers sell a disk made from plastic looks like a thick mat removes paint with out heat and doesn,t score the metal surface.
