Rusty extractor headers

Has anyone ever come across anything (apart from ceramic coating which isn't really idealogically sound, being non-d.i.y.) (and I can't afford it !) to put on extractor headers on a Kom to stop them going horribly rusty ? Or to get rid of the rust once it's there ?
