Geez, you're making me go back over 30 years! I had a '54 cabrio with a 40hp motor that I put a 1500 crankshaft in plus the oversize barrels that would fit without boring the cases. I put a "hot" cam in it as well ( custom ground by Wade's I think)- but I regreted it from the start. Once it got "on song" it went real hard but it was a real bitch at idle. I replaced it & went back to a stock cam the 1st time the motor had to come out. I'd be careful & get to see a cam actually working in a car B4 I did another one!!

Nothing 1st-hand (I settled for one of the machine-shop's standard grinds), but I believe it's either Crane or Crow Cams who do one-off custom grinds. I read an article in a non-VW magazine quite a while ago, and the equipment they had was awesome. Some of it they had even built themselves. :)
