Insurance
Hey Guys
Can anyone recommend an insurance company that will insure my 74 Kombi for what it is worth and not some imaginary figure that Joe insurance man picks
out the air. I have had it insured before with an agreed value of $7500 but since moving to Brisbane they are all saying $2500 is the market value
which is B/shit.
I also don't want to be paying massive premiums to get it fully comp, can anyone recommend an insurance company who accepts the value of a well kept
VW Kombi?
Thanks
Stevie Boy!

The Aussie Peso has been influenced by inflation over 30 years. I would love to buy my beer at 1974 prices, just not gonna happen.
You could not buy an excellent condition, rust free, mechanically sound, well kitted out Kombi for $2500 (or $3797) which would be the situation
should some spotty boy racer take a header into my van. It just happens that this suits the big W@nky corporate insurance types, that think that VW
owners are all pot smoking hippies.
There must be loads of VW punters on this site that have had the same problem as me. Give me a yell if you can help.

I am also interested to know whether there are any other companies that insure a modified '66 Beetle for third party property (not fire and theft).
Shannons was good as since it was only 3rd party property, they didn't care about the mods, but all other companies seem to be scared away by the
mods.
Cheers

Just Cars is the boy racer side of AAMI.
They will insure anything but at a price,
Might not do old stuff, as they are mostley for the jap imports and young drivers with convictions etc.
Cheers

Yeah I rang them and they don't do cars older than 30 years. Surely Shannons isn't the only company willing to insure modified cars this old?

That funny..... because when I rang Shannons to insure my 67 beetle on friday they said they would insure it even if I put a bigger motor in it but it
would cost a bit more but it certainly wasn't extortionate.

Oh sorry I was talking about Just Cars. I am currently with Shannons but am always looking for a cheaper option. Almost $400 just for 3rd party
property (no driving offences or claims) has always seemed too expensive too me.
Back to the original thread though...Is it just me it annoys though that with house insurance, what you end up getting back is what you lost (mostly),
but with car insurance, the market value they give would barely buy me another set of carbs that are on the car. End of rant.

He, yeah, some of those companies sure have a funny idea of what things are worth. I guess it's tricky, I mean, you could get a '74 for a few
hundred, it's just that that would be a rustbucket piece of garbage, clearly not what you have. But some don't see the difference perhaps...
Um, well: I have Shannons comprehensive. Just under $500/year for agreed value of about $3000. OK, that doesn't sound too great does it, but I am
still just under 25 years of age (only some months to go, woohoo, cheaper insurance!).
Cheers dudes!

I have got the bus insured through Shannons
I would recommend them and I am an insurance investigator.
Got mine insured for $25k, costing me $350 per year.
restricted to 10,000kms per year, but I'm an old fart so thats why it is so cheap.
Cheers

Thanks for all your input, Tried Shannons they were quite good $350p/y, but on the off chance I tried Suncorp and they were amazingly $180p/y for an
agreed replacment price of $8000, it's not usual to get a result from insurance companies, but there you have it.
