Hey Frogger, is there any rust on the car? If so what is the extent (Surface or eaten through)? Has there been any rust repair work done, if so
where?
For those interested, some of the main areas of rust in beetles are:
Front heater channels - From outside, look behind the front wheels at the bottom of the body (near but not the guards), if there is nothing there,
it's a good start. You may see plates welded in if there was rust there so the next place to look is inside the car. Check in front of the A pillar
above the heater channels for holes.
Rear heater channels - From outside, look at the front of the rear wheels at the bottom of the body (near but not the guards), if there is nothing
there, again it's a good start. Another giveaway is rust bubbles or bog in the panel between the door and the rear guards specially in the lower
areas. Take a fridge magnet to check for bog. Check inside the car at the place the heater tubes join the channels again in front of the rear
wheels.
Doors - get on the ground and look up at the bottom of the doors, this area is typically not touched when painted and will show if there are any
issues with the doors. The drainage holes in the doors often get blocked and with water buildup comes rust.
Battery tray - Look under the car where the battery tray is, check for rust or new plates welded in.
Under the spare wheel - simply remove the spare wheel and look from both inside the boot and from under the car.
Sorry to use this post to do this, but it will help both buyers and sellers in finding the right vehicle on this forum. Given there are post from
across the country, it is best for both buyers and sellers to know what and where to look.
I'm sure there are many areas to look for rust in the chassis, but it is the body that takes the most (except head replacement on the chassis) time
and will require a respray if rust is found. For those experienced VWers, feel free to add to or amend my suggested places to look for rust.

Sold from under me
I had an agreement with this tosser to buy the car and had an agreed price to purchase. Emailed him back to get his bank details and he sold it to
some one else. He has since skipped the country. Hope the car at least went to someone on the forum.
