First Trip
Just completed my first major trip in our 82 Kombi ( vanagon)
the vehicle cruised effortlessly on Christmas day from Taree to Albury towing a trailer loaded with camping gear for 5 people plus gas fridge,trestle
table etc etc ( reasonably heavy).
Fuel consumption was not so desirable but the further we travelled without any problems the less of a concern that became,after a stop over on
Christmas night we then headed to Echuca on Boxing day and then a little further on (approx 20k's) found our camp site on the Murray River where we
spent 5 nights camped on the edge of the river enjoying nothing to do at all except eat,drink and share tales around the camp fire, the days were
spent water skiing and wake boarding.
Time to move on saw us pack up on 31/12/04 and start our journey to Orange ( once again the Kombi never faulted),2 days spent in Orange relaxing ( and
having a real shower =) ), then the final leg of our road trip, Orange to Taree, Kombi cruising all the way, was slightly worried heading up
'Victoria Pass' as i could have been booked for loitering 2nd gear and
very slow but plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, approx 2500 km's return trip and hard to understand why anyone would want to travel in anything
less
btw,
what has happened to the 'Kombi wave' ? seems drivers of the older Kombi's still like to give a friendly wave but drivers of the later T4's etc
are seemingly oblivious to any other VW driver
Anyway, to the drivers that waved 'thanks and Hi' my family loves that friendly feeling

The Kombi wave is the Dub wave, but it's usually only people who drive the same model as you who bother. Plenty of Bug drivers leave me in the cold
when my hand is outstreched. Or maybe they know a little about me from the forum and don't want to be associated?!?
