Me and Danny are both trying to sort some out at the moment.

I know some of my old american vw magazines have them listed, but who does them now I couldnt tell you.

Good luck finding one, let us know if you do find a supplier!

Cheers

It would be easy to get the glass made up but I believe there are other issues involved.

Let me quote Danny:
They are not available as far as i'm aware. Most of the parts are available or can be made ( glass) but not all. The hardest part of this conversion is 2 things.

Firstly the standard regulaor sits where the glass would need to slide down into the door. You have to get anothter regulator and mount it central in the door to be out of the way and also to support the glass properly. A modified early Laser or Corolla mech will fit. Also the door has to be modified ( sections cut out) as the new glass will catch on parts of the inner side of the door and not slide up and down.

Secondly the glass has got to be supported at the front and needs a channel to run up and down in. Without this thefront of the glass will be loose and can smash in the door. Also the window will dip at the front , not wind properly and put alot of stress on the winding mech. The ideal channel to use / modify would be from any that is straight and long enough to go from the top to the bottom of the door. Normally found on early 4 x 4 's or small / large trucks. You can use the original T3 down channel however if you want to ever re use it you'll have to drill out a few rivets and be careful. Saying that if youre going to do this properly the door will never be standard again anyway.

I was going to do this conversion for a few reasons. the chrome work and seals were stuffed , i'd never seen them on a Notch and it's a job i'm well capable of ( work at O'briens , 15 years in job). However i saw a car with these on and personally wasn't over keen on it and will not suit thye look i'm after. The new glass can be made in safety toughened glass and in most cases is available in clear , bronze , green or a mid grey.

I have found that all the seals / chromes / hardware for the complete doors are available as a kit , German quality , roughly $400 a door.

The job is easy enough to do and if you need more info let me know and i'll be glad to help you out. I'm keeping the vent now and replacing the seals etc . However i am getting some new glass made in the mid grey tint. Will go nice with the final silver/grey colour of the Notch.

Good luck

Dan

I have a pair of type 3 doors with one piece windows already fitted if anyone is interested. Not sure how they were done but they seem to work nice.

I was also going to add one piece windows to My Beetle but a local who had done the conversion told Me not to do it...

He actually converted his beetle back to quarter windows....

Out of all the conversions I have seen at VW shows like the Nationals... I've only ever seen 1 or 2 conversions that looked genuine... the others looked like crap...

the leading rubber needs to go up and around the curve...
NOT Flat like most are.... stick with Original windows...
and You won't have to curse every time You want to open the quarter windows and they aren't there.....

Like any glass, if they are fitted poorly they are a headache to say the least. If you really took your time there is no reason why they couldn't look factory. You just have to be so smack on with your measurements and pattern and also make any drill holes adjustable.

Just remember , your door will never be the same and neither will your door trim as the winder is relocated.

One final reason i didn't do it was for resale. Although i plan to keep my Notch , you never know! Big mod to reverse!

See if you can get a 2nd pair of doors and maybe do it that way. If you didn't like it put your old ones back on???

If i can help , shout up!

Dan;)
