Wanted : 3 bolt strut bottom sections

People,

I'm chasing a pair of old 3 bolt (ie 72 / 73) front mcpherson struts that I can cut and reweld to lower the front end of my bug a bit.

I'm planning on reusing the springs and shock inserts (KYB gas inserts) that are currently on the car, so all I'm really after is the bottom half of the strut, that holds the shock insert and has the lower spring plate on it.

I know I can get these from a wrecker, but am hoping (as ever, being the tight bastard I am) that someone in Perth might have a pair gathering dust in their shed that they want to dispose of ?

Cheers,

Doug

PS, am in Perth, WA.

Early 73's had 3 bolt, late 73's went to the 2 bolt design (heaps better I think).

Mine is an early 73.

I have heard, that going to the two bolt type (on the 1302), inlcuding top bearing unit will lower the car 1.5 inches?

Heard this on super beetles only? blue can you confirm?

Interesting. If I had have known more about super bugs before I had bought mine, I would definetely bought a late 73 or a 74 / 75 with the 2 bolt struts - they are a much better design, heaps easier to take the strut off, smaller struts and heaps more scope for modifying other vehicles struts to suit.

All I want to do is cut and lower the bottom spring plate by about 50mm to get the front end down out of the clouds.

Doug

You can change it all over to 2 bolt.
Just need the bottom arms and stuff. Not THAT much work.

The down side is 2 bolts are getting really hard to find now.

You can lower 3 bolts more though. You only get about 2" out of 2 bolts and up to 5" out of 3 bolts.

IF you have REAL trouble finding some give Alex a call. I am sure his dad has some 3 bolts laying round.
