oil filler problem
hey all...just wondering what everyone else has coated there oil filler in? i hve discovered rust on mine...so b4 i get rust in my engine...i was
gonna paint it with heat paint and bake in the oven...would this be the best solution?
also the cork seal has cracked and fallen to pieces...can i buy new ones of these?? aswell as one for fuel filler cap?

Externally you can use a good enamal paint, engine enamals are good for ~3-400C. You dont need exhaust paint ~1200C
Don't paint inside because when it peels, and it will, it will end up in your engine, not good.
Either way don't bake them in the oven as they smoke for a while in the initial "burn in"
As for the rust inside, just clean it and drive the car more often to keep moisture out :thumb

If it's for a type 3 you can buy new caps for both oil and fuel fillers, probably around $30 each for new ones. Is the rust inside the filler tube
or outside? Either way heat paint is probably unnecessary as it really doesn't get that hot. Use POR or even an enamel like Killrust, they are much
better at stopping rust than hi temp paints

awesome...the rust is on the inside of the filler tube...i drive the car everyday, so moisture isnt really a prob...cept ofcourse for this seal...is
it necessary to buy a whole new cap? or cant i just get a cork ring...i didnt think u could buy new oil dipsticks....
if i paint the inside of the oil filler with enamel, wont that peel as well?

ranex rust buster, yellow label with black and red writing. excellent for any surface rust, read the directions before you use it. i dont know about
new cork, but a rubber ring at the right size works fine for oil cap.

I also found a new rubber seal to do the job....
just pour a very small amount of oil down the pipe....
that will keep the rust away....
most of them are usually oily anyway....
