has anyone subby converion in nsw (engineered )
hi there guys really un sure what to put in to my project 54 bug .. i have been think about a ej20t just not sure if any one in nsw has had one
engineered ,, and would love to chat with some one that has .. cheers and any advice is welcome cheers jason

Jak has had his done. I’m doing one, but I’m a long way from the engineering stage. The same engineer that did Jaks will be doing mine, I’ve
already sent him all my information and he has given me the go ahead, pending his inspection. If you have a read of the requirements on the RTA
website for engine swaps you will get an idea of what’s needed. The one rule that is hard to bend is capacity of the motor in regard of the factory
weight of the car you’re building. In Jaks case and mine we are both using 1302 or 1303 bugs, they weigh 870 kgs from the factory, so 870 kgs X 2.5
(this the RTA rule for turbo motors) = 2175 cc. So this means that with our factory weight we can only run a 2175 cc motor.
So your oval would need to weigh 800 kgs from the factory, I might be wrong but I think they weighed slightly less. So if you base your car on a later
chassis, say a 1500 Beetle your car you may be allowed to do this as the Oval would be considered to be a later Beetle, read heavier.
If you look into the weight side of things, do what the engineer says to do, you should have no problems. You don’t know me or my qualifications, so
you should verify this advice with an RTA approved engineer.

I've got a 2.5l (2457cc) NA subbie in my 60' buggy. It is legally 830kg standard, so I was right on the limit (weight x 3 = 2490cc NA max).
