Beetle Shopping List

Hope this is in the right forum..
The following are some questions..

67 Beetle.. Drums all round.. Is there a disc brake kit that fits the beetle?.. If so who and how much..

Hoodlining has gone.. How much should I pay for a replacement (down to back quarter panels)

Any recommendations on where to go for kick panels and carpet sets?

Also window scrapers needed..

I know the CB performance kits are roughtly $600US for either the front or rear.

I was looking at the CSP kits myself, they are getting rave reviews in europe.

Have heard good and bad things about the shermans. You could get dropped spindles with the late disc brake tab and just go stock late ones. Although i guess dropped spindles are pricey and u have to lose the wide 5 pattern - although this stays factory and they're better than the CB performance discs.

I think vintage has a wide 5 setup disc thing?? or its been in development for a few years.

Headlining, I paid $220 or so for my mohair one for my '59, Vinyl ones are $110. This is from classicveedub in rydalmere. These are the TMI branded ones and are pretty nice.

Also got the carpet set from them too, about $300 (this includes the floormats). Plus about $100 for the rear parcel tray/firewall bit which is another kit. These are also TMI and vinyl carpet. Nice quality.

Also got doorpanels for about $450 for a set of TMI ones. very happy with these. nice material and nicely put together. fits perfectly.

Shipping from US will kill you unfortunately....as well as customs and duty and taxes.

I brought in a pair of CB performance dropped spindles, front disc kit as well as rear swing axle rear disc kit for a 68 pan...all things said and done, cost me around AU$2200 - yes ouch.

I am sure you could get them in cheaper but would be worthwhile going through a company that brings such stuff in regularly as they won't be bent over and royally shafted like when you bring it in yourself through a courier company.

Hi,

Hey everyone, you know it's pretty simple to do the kick panels yourself.

Depending on the materials you use, you can do it for about $50.00.

I made ours last weekend. I did it reall cheap, just to see if I could, and now I know for certain i can, I plan to redo them later (when car is fully resprayed) with better materiels. but basically, if you have a weekend, u can do them yourself. Including parcel tray. But only if you have the old ones to get ur templates from (or someone who will lend u theirs)

It's just a matter of the following:

Purchase:
Spray on glue.
Staple gun (hobby one, the others are too powerfuL)
Material u want to do the car in
Matting/wadding for padding it out.
stanley knife
MDf - from hardware -
MDF for whole car should be about $16, glue $8, wadding $12, material up to you.

Get out all the panels (I am assuming u know how to do this, but if not, Just u2u me.)
Rip off the old materials.
give boards a bit of a scrub.
Place them onto MDF and trace around...including all ur screw holes etc.
Also make sure u note which is back and which is front - drivers dorr etc
cut out, using jigsaw. Drill holes etc
Spray glue onto front of panel.
Place wadding on top.
Cut around wadding with stanley knife.
spray glue onto wadding
place material onto this, smoothing and stretching as u go.
Stretch out soem more...then turn over.
Spray glue on back, and then stretch material & staple on back.

Now the process is slow....but rewarding

And it really can be done.

if u want to have patterns put into it, u just sew more wadding into that area. if u have no idea on how to sew, then ask wife....or u can pop down to shopping centers/menders, and ask them to do this for u. U can get them to totally do one for u which is unique to u....but u have to remember to work out where u want it placed.

But if u really feel it is too hard, or u have no time, just purchase them.

I just wanted to try for the hell of it.....and like I said, now I know I can, I plan to do something way more adventurous.

Thinking blue lures and silver paint...lol...just kidding!

hope it helps.

I also know there is a site which teaches u how to do it...will try to find it and post here.

cheers
donna

I paid $250 fitted for my headliner 2 years ago, and remember that that was a pretty good price. Good idea to get someone else to do it - they are a right royal shit of a job to put in without wrinkles, unless you are in the business.

My old man has a Shermans front wide 5 disc kit on his 62, and has no problems with it - pulls up heaps better than std drums. They are about $700 odd I think ? from my bad memory that is.

Thanks.. have heard that [custom off road] have a front disc kit assembly.. Apparently good size calipers and quality set up.. I'll get to that shortly.. The car is a runner but just needs interior tidy up.. I get this sorted first and then work on brakes, body, duco etc as time and inclination allow..
I'm after little bits now, new seatbelts are a must (keen to gt inertia belts if set ups possible), kick panels, headliner, armrests, indicator stalk.. Got to think about the wipers too.. They are toys! Ooooh dear.. what have I done.. Got rid of a 2004 golf and upgraded to a 67 beetle..!
