if its stock it will have a 1200 gearbox, the 1600 will fit straight in however your gearing will be low and u will be revving your engine really high
on the highway. i recomend getting a 1500/1600 swing axle box to go with the engine if u put it in. apart from that it should just go in fine as far
as i know.

You may have to clearance the gearbox for the 1600 flywheel, and maybe just maybe the starter as well.:o

couldnt you change the fly wheel from your 1200 to t he 1600? leaving the starter as it is and the clearance?
is the car 6v or 12v. i think that makes a difference also? the generator?

How about the physical size of the engine.
Dont you have to cut a bigger space in the engine bay for the 1600 engines?

Ive done it to my '63 which has the original gearbox.
- The transmission bell housing will need to be clearanced if you want to use the 1600 flywheel
- The 1600 flywheel will only work with a 12v starter
- The 1600 flywheel will also need a larger 200mm clutch as the early ones were 180mm. You will need to get a early kombi clutch and pressure plate
which is 200mm and suits the early style throwout bearing. The late trannys have a different design of throwout bearing and only work with the late
clutches.
- You will need to change the starter bushing in the transmission to a "conversion bushing". It has the outside diameter to fit the early tranny
and the inside diameter to fit the later starter
I dont think you can fit a 1200 flywheel to a 1600 crank as they have different types of seals. The 1200 one had a gasket with four holes for the
dowels and the 1300 and later have the graphite seal which fit in a little groove in the flywheel.
there is no cutting of bodywork required
The gearing of the early box (4.375 R&P) is actually kind of fun
Its quite zippy, but I'm only getting about 13L/100km in city driving.

Sorry I dont understand what they mean saying your gearbox will blow.
There is absolutely no need to change your gearbox if it is good condition. If you are running a 1200 motor then you are most likely running a 6v
starter.

its not necessary at all. you can run a 1600 or any motor with a 1200 box fine.
