timing marks??
hey guys
is it just me or are timing marks invisable on type 4 motors??? have an 1800 here and sanded the pulley down and cant see anything?!?!?!? my daily
driver has a white out marker on it all manuals say there should be a groove??

p.s. its a pain is the arse trying to do a guestimate buy the valves moving dont have sensative enough fingers :P

rotate the engine till the rotor is just before the firing position for number 1 and then look at the crank pully where it aligns with the crack in
the case and look for the marks. if u cant find any.
try advancing your timing untill the engine is running at its fastest. and then back it off a teeny bit. then take for a drive. if it pings then back
it off a little bit.
or buy a stroboscopic light.

hey dude
problem is the engine isnt running and timing is the only thing we havent done and the engine is out of the car! i think its way out the timing but
cant check it precisely i might just do a guestimate using another pulley see how that goes!

I know what you mean. I managed to find a slight notch somewhere, so I put some whiteout on it, and at 180* to it. It's not at TDC though, but I
know how off it is (few degrees 'slow'). 1800 also. I saw one TIV motor with a nice little degrees dial thing on it. How convenient!

you should have a timing scale too!!!! there on all type 4 motors if u dont have one i would get on!!! i worked it out by using another motor where i
new was set right to 8 degrees BTDC and it looks the same but one thing i did find is that i was one cylinder out god damn it no wonder it wouldnt
start DOH!!!!
