if you're serious you're best off buying a manual. john muir's 'compleat idiot's guide' is good - i did my first service a couple months ago with this book

there are alot of good sites out there as well, im sure others here will point you out to some

Yes, You really need to buy some VW manuals for Your car... The late John Muirs book is a good one to start with..

Another really good book is "Volkswagen Beetle - owners handbook & servicing Guide - by Haynes...
the copy I have covers all Beetles up to 1977...
and is in very good condition...
It covers virtually everything You need to know from what to do if a warning lamp lights up- to changing headlamp bulbs- changing the oil, changing & adjusting the fan belt- tuning the engine - changing the spark plugs etc...
everything You need to know & more....

You can have it for $40 postage paid....

I bought it off ebay but I have ten other Workshop manuals to read......

Having some library at hand is nearly mandatory, but you can perhaps do with the information available at http://www.vw-resource.com/routinelinks.html  and perhaps http://www.vw-resource.com/tune-up.html.

Have fun. (^^)

Call Kate at PITSTOP Bookshop... She'll be able to post it out for you...
Also I think you have a copper in town that is really into VeeDubs...???
At least, you did when I was there... Go up to the cop shop and ask if he still works there... He'll be able to help...

I hate to admit it, but man, I think you're right....
