kombi help needed!

alright! ive just got my kombi turning over with the plugs in so now i have to hook up the fuel and electrical..

its a 73 kombi with a 1.8L engine out of a 74 kombi, it originally had a 2L in there and there looks like some different plugs for the minor shit that i will adress later down the track..

all i wanna do for now is get it running...

so ive hooked the fuel back up, but its the electrical i may need guidance with..

when i took the dizzy out i didnt mark its position.. now is this gonna work??

i find top dead centre on #1 cylinder (i think that is the front left one yeah? when in the kombi..) earth out the lead with the plug in the end that goes to that cylinder and turn the dizzy until i get spark..

is that the go? maybe a bit inaccurate but will get me movin so i can drive the kombi just 30 meters or so?

now whats the easiest way to find top dead centre? finger over the hole until the pressure stops when you rotate the crank by hand? (gee these approximations are gettin rough hey!!hahaha), or screwdriver down the hole to test the height of the piston, or are there marks on pulleys somewhere that can be aligned?

also, firing order... which cylinder is which and what order?

any help would be farkin great and appreciated!!!

thanks in advance!!! :bounce:bounce:bounce

Get yourself a manual :P
Or knock yourself out here :D
http://www.type2.com/library/library.htm

But a few quick ones, if all you have done is lifted the complete dissy out, it only goes in one way so your fine there.
There should be a timing scale next to the fan/pulley with a zero mark. The pulley itself has a mark for TDC on No 1 cyl to line it all up.
No 1 cyl is front right (relative to bus, under airbox inlet), 2 is back right, 3 is front left, 4 is back left.
You can set timing statically (without power) by watching the points open. Spark is when they just crack open. Should be good enough to get running.
