mmm, probably ovakill
Unless you wannna build the worlds most expensive bug, i'd pick up a porsche box or a kombi box and get it built up with albins gears. A mendeola
would be a waste of time and money behind a rotor, they don't make the torque that a big boxer does. That's what kills VW boxes anyway. If you look
at the post for rod penroses old drag car you'll find it's running a Kombi box and it was making 600+hp and was good for 8s, so it will be fine for
your 400hp.

BTW, you are doing well in asking these sorts of questions before you spend any dough, you'll save yourself a lot of time and money that way.

Yeah, thorough research ALWAYS helps before a big project.
Sounds like it will be a real fun car in the end !

yeah. some people give me a hard time for asking so many questions that are seemingly stupid to them. but i just turn around and say.
look. if it can save me a thousand dollars or more. or even a few hundred dollars in the long run i am happy asking the questions.
i learn, get good advice, take new ideas on board, gain knoweledge.
so any more questions and i will be sure to ask them.
i have read on shoptalkforums that a kombi box is not that great, i know some of the guys can talk a lot of shit but is there any truth in this?. i
also heard that because a rotary revs so high it will be no good.
a 13bt in standard form redlines at 7k.

I know quite a few people who are using standard kombi boxes in front of very powerful engines. Revs are not the problem. Big torque is. If you fit a
super diff and a good gear set there should be no reasonable limit to what they can handle. Of course you still have to treat them with a bit of
respect, ie no "dumping" the clutch, but if you talk to Albins offroad they'll tell you what they're capable of. Probably the best guy to build it
is Shimmo in Sydney. You can get on to him through Rod Penrose.

"Stupid is as stupid does." :duh
The really stupid people don't ask questions and never learn. Eg. people who keep poring money into chev V8s, mopars are much stronger.

you said it, ask them how many of them actually own 13bts with Kombi boxes in front of them...I bet none.

My suby redlines at 6k and it not the gbox but the gearshift (my own handywork) that I have issues with.

Baja Wes has a 250hp V6 behind his Kombi box - and that revs to similar levels. Kombi boxes actually have a lower gearing than the beetle boxes - I
would have thought that would be better for a high revving conversion ?
You're right, there are 'experts' everywhere you go. Its tough sometimes to winnow out the bull shit from the good advice.

The rigoli boys of WRX fame used a Kombi box in one of their Fiat drag cars i think?
anyone know if there are body mods required to fit a kombi box into a beetle?
