Easy Engine Question

What size engine is a 36hp? Is it a 1200, 1300, etc?

I have been looking around at engines on the forum to put into my '60 bug, as the current one is siezed. Instead of buying a full engine with all the bits (gen, dist, carby, etc), I could just buy the bare block and use all the bits on my current engine, correct? Of course, a bit of a clean for it all along the way, but the idea is there?

Advice?

the 36 hp & 40 hp engines were both 1200cc or 72.74 cubic inches... [US terminology]

1192cc I believe from memory...

all My books say cubic inches or 1200cc....

toss the 1200 and go for a 1300, change the tinware and its easier to get parts for a 1300 :)

Pod - yes I had arranged for a 1300 through here but lost it later.

Dumone - yes was looking at that one, hence these questions.

Will see how I go, comes down to $$ of course. Thanks all.
