right oil filter for remote filter on oil pimp cover
hello all.
i've got one of those oil filters that hang out to the left of and replace the oil pump cover. been using z62 filters cause thats what it had on it.
just changed the oil and the last filter had fallen to peices inside.
does anyone know what the right filter is for these things?? and is there a small body filter i can use instead of the large body filter???
thanks

Not sure if there's different brands of them, but I found you can use the Kombi oil filters on mine. Any VW place will have them, Mahle, Mann brands
etc. Never had trouble with them.
On mine the Repco Z10 filter also fits, the Z9 filters are the same mount but a bit long to get in there with stock exhaust. I think they are
superceeded numbers though, not sure what the new equivalent is.

Mine is very similar but not the same, it included the whole pump with slightly increased output. Filter and mount looks about the same though.

Do you have any trouble with oil pressure? I had an older style remote filter which made it run really low on pressure.

mines meant to be the higher oil pump too. anyway, it caved in the z62.
just got a airkooled kombi one and a z89a as both fit thread and sealing face and their bodies arnt as long. will try the z89a first and check it
after a few kms

I have no oil pressure gauge, so not sure. As it's been in for ~7-8 years I guess it's OK.
Remote filter is different thing all together. So many things could cause the low pressure. Besides the usual worn bearings, bad relief, worn pump,
leaks, is oil good, is oil not too hot, etc, etc. Some additional things with an external setup is was the instalation good, are all oil galleries
correctly sized, are oil lines not too long, is filter element any good, is the gauge correct, etc, etc. I think it's usually recommended with an
external setup to get a slightly larger pump also if you don't have one.
One thing to also consider with many of these setups is often a stock setup (as on type 4) will have a bypass relief to protect the oil filter from
pressure spikes, as you get at startup. Many aftermarket type 1 bolt on's don't have this, and is why there is a higher risk of collapsing the
filter, and in extream cases splitting the filter itself.
helterskelter400 the problem you have is most likely to happen if the filter is clogged, so not sure if either filter you have will show problems
after a few klms.

i think i'll put it down to a dud filter as it was only on for about 1000km. i spose it was 1000km of beaches & tracks tho!
theres a filter on the crankcase breather so dunno. i've heard of these bolt ons stuffing filters at start up due to the pressure they can create at
startup with cold thick oil.
will keep an eye on it.
thx
