anyone know anything about SU's?
i'm tinkering with my non vw 60's car, and need some basic help with the SU's.
the car has been sitting for about 2-3 years with no driving and not much running. i should be taking it to get blue slipped in today or tomorrow
(with any luck). the prob is that it is running really rich, but was fine when parked.
i was wondering if this could be due to the oil in the dashpots draining out over time? if so what oil do i need to use and how full should they
be?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
henry.

It could be due to the oil in dashpots being low, but you could try topping up the oil and changing the needles.

as for the needles, i'll stick with whats in there as i got them set up by a guy who has been tuning SU's on 60's Volvos since they were new (but
is not answering his phone today.)

SU's normally used straight engine oil but also if it's been standing you may have to check the condition of the diaphragm

Singer oil was what you usually put down the pots of an SU carbie. Work it up and down a bit. Jetting them is easy. Balancing twin SU's, wind them
fully in, then wind them back out 2 1/2 turns. Then listen like crazy from there. It was how I used to do my Mini Cooper's twin SU's. It came
straight from the mouth of an old rally mechanic with the Mini's. Worked a treat too.
real, not plastic! Chrome, chrome and more chrome.
